4/10
Pretty poor film until the last 15 minutes or so, if it wasnt for the last part of the film I would have only given it a 2/10

Good fun action movie.
Would have given it more but it was a bit hard to follow who was who in some of the battles.

Great movie for WoW fans alike but I can see why there's negativity. I was left confused at various parts and forgetful of lore. There'll be massively different reviews, I can't see many watching this without knowing the lore and then enjoying it.

We'll get some truly epic sequels should it make it that far. The film started ahead of the very start of the lore. So stories like the Lich King will need introductions as will the scourge. Then again that would be the same way the game did it. Still got the rise of thrall to go, the under city, the formation of Durotar and rise of the horde and the start of Orgrimmar.

I'm not sure whether a hobbit style fantasy would have been better. They've really stuck to the source orcs and mages and thus a massive CGI barrier is formed. Each to their own but I know folks that were expecting them to move away a bit and go down the hobbit style route.

l have some some clips and it does not look too bad compared to some other films of that genre.

Surprising but it was genuinely really funny and overall pretty good. Great audience reactions too. Whole screen laughed out loud at most of the jokes. Kevin (Hemsworth) stole the show.

Loved the original cast cameos as well. Hope there will be a sequel too.

I am dying to see the new Stargate film. I won't bother me if it pants though because for me the Stargate legacy and universe has already been created with SG1 and Atlantis. If they fluff this one up I'll just pretend it doesn't exist.

I'll give Suicide Squad 2/10, it was absolutely pants. I don't understand what DC Comics' problem is, they just can't get the characters right. Marvel manage to tell an amazing story about each of the characters, even with an ensemble cast like X-men, and you come to know and love each of them for their history and who they are. DC just seem to bang out generic action movies and the characters in them just don't seem to matter and that includes the Superman films from a few years ago as well. They seem to struggle to get the depth. I hope Wonder Woman is better. I think I'll enjoy it more just because Gal Gadot is in it. I saw a trailer for it in front of Suicide Squad and it looks like Captain America: Politically Correct Female Version.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

if you want an action movie for an 8 year old then yes. Even the main story was crap like BvS and had many holes in it. I wasn't looking to be picky, I was hoping this was going to be really good but as I was watching it stupid things stuck out like a sore thumb and I just sat there thinking "that doesn't make sense".

adzii_nufc 07-08-2016 02:35

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Look at the trailer for Justice League, Snyder appears to have figured out that the whole Dark themed directing doesn't apply to every single movie you make..

Guy shouldn't be allowed anywhere near movies after Sucker Punch.

Marvel got this stuff locked down years ago. Besides Nolan's take on Batman I can't think of many 'great' DC movies before they typically hit the reset button and here we are starting all over with mediocre movies. Snyder's Man of Steel lacked the Dark tone and funnily enough I found it to be the best Superman movie to date.. Then you learn Nolan basically shadowed him all the way through it then Nolan took an even further back seat for Dawn of Justice and to no surprise, the misery and depressing theme from Snyder's portfolio is back.

Can either pay Nolan double and hope he directs or just wait ten years for a reboot.

Also despite being solid, Marvel don't get it entirely their own way, I think Age of Ultron was massively overrated. Spader started off well as Ultron with great lines and dialogue setting him up as a monstrous villain, the quotes from Pinocciho were brilliant but then he just fades away and becomes unbelievably dull for the remainder. Also losing the battle between Quicksilver MCU and Quicksilver X-men, the latter being done far better. Luckily Civil war made up for this shortfall, notably the fight scenes involving Panther and the dialogue from the new Spiderman.

That is the thing, the only DC related movie(s) I like (absolutely love) are the Dark Knight trilogy, especially Batman Begins, because it is all about the character and his story.

Hardcore Henry - 3/10 for 43 minutes I bothered to endure.

I get it, its a new filming idea (Shot in first person with a go pro)

However that gimmick dies after 20 minutes and you get sick after that. A first person movie with an extremely confusing plot that's incredibly fast paced, what could go wrong?

Grimsby - 7/10 Surprisingly had laughs in it. Not as bad as one would expect from Cohen, up there with Borat this one.

The book is excellent, the movie is a bag of manure. Nuff said, don't waste your money.
I really don't understand how someone of Kings writing ability would allow his work to be butchered, it's not like he needs the money.
The actors could not have read the book, the script writers must have briefly glanced at the book, the director was drunk whilst it was edited by a 2-year-old.
This was the worse film based on a novel I have ever watched.

The script was 7 years old when finally put to use. The movie was in development hell and was subject to a quick hashjob attempt to make. King himself wrote the script and what followed.

He didn't just allow it, he was part of it. Rich people never have enough money. This happens to good ideas all the time. Had high hopes for new Jack Ryan films (Tom Clancy) only to see a likeable actor in Chris Pine given a DOA movie.

Anyway, Jack Reacher 7/10. Not sure why I gave this a miss for so long. A slave to Scientology or not, Cruise knows how to stick a good movie.

Star Trek: Beyond 8/10

I trashed the trailer and Justin Lin as did many, given his past films were relatively simple cash cows I expected him to ignore the giant fanbase of Star Trek and produce some Fast and Furious space race crap, something which became a popular quote in the build up. So anything less than awful would have been a surprise. It was brilliant. Judge/Book/Cover is very relevant here and I eat the humble pie, Lin did the opposite of initial expectations and ended up nailing it. Bigger roles in the film for other crew members made it even better. Great to see Anton in his final film get plenty of screen time, RIP.

Roll on number four.

Just been to see Deep Water Horizon, very very good and puts a human face on the whole thing. I can remember watching the news intensely as it all happened and at the time was only concerned with the environmental impact and consequences and looked at the rig and people in general as BP and the greed for $$$$. This shows the other side of it and what everyone went through and is well worth a watch purely as a disaster movie if nothing else.

It had a bit of everything you could want in a film (effects, action, humour etc) but the thing which gave it the edge for me was that the balance they struck with science. That is, if we use SF's proper definition which has nothing to do with space opera (though I do love Star Wars as well - roll on Episode VIII and Rogue One!). The only other SF writer I can think of who makes the point that language both reflects and defines viewpoint is Diane Duane, in her Star Trek novels. In The Wounded Sky, for example, there's a description of Uhura's struggle with a new language and the mindset that comes with it - and the object is not to win but to lose the fight. To really understand a language, you need to think in the language, not simply run through the words in your mind and translate them - that is not understanding.

OOPS. I forgot Samuel Delaney's Babel-17, which (I've just discovered on Wikipedia) influenced Ted Chiang in writing "Story Of Your Life", on which Arrival is based. Babel-17's a difficult read.

All in all, a really good SF film with a twist I really did not see coming (actually there is at least one tiny clue which appears twice, but don't blink or you'll miss it - I saw it but didn't understand it until the twist was revealed). I'd say 9.7/10 and happy birthday to me!

Happy Bday, I went to see it last Thursday on my bday as well :) I agree that it is an excellent. Some might say it is long and drawn out but I for me I class it is a proper scifi film which makes you think instead of you just sitting there waiting for the big space explosions.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them - 10/10, and to think I was going to wait for the DVD!

As you should all know, the original source material was essentially just a guidebook, so I couldn't see how they could make a story out of it, unless it was about Newt's travels across the world. The fact that the film is set in 1926 New York put paid to that idea. So, not that interested.

And then I had a rrrroooooooooooouuuuuuggggghhhhh week at work. Insane levels of graft following That Day - I refuse even to mention it. You know the one I mean. The one that isn't white and comes the day before Saturday.

Yeah, that day. I thought that was bad, but...anyway.

I decided to treat myself today. I'm so glad I did. It's a wonderful tale, very Rowling-esque...hardly surprising, since she wrote it. I had a merry time spotting creatures from the book and trying to identify them - the Niffler was very well-realised (and cute, I thought). There are several that aren't in the book, too.

Some not-so-subtle hints of Things To Come, such as mention of Albus Dumbledore and the Lestrange family, plus the Sign of the Deathly Hallows. Seeing the differing attitudes of American and British wizards was intriguing...and I loved that the American wizards had an equivalent of the FBI!

Casting was spot-on. The lead actor reminded me very much of Matt Smith, and played Newt in much the same way as Matt played the Doctor.

Lots of humour, very human touches, tragedy and life lessons regarding tolerance and understanding...as I said, very Rowling-esque. I rather hope she turns it into a novel.
