Just back from Saw 3 9/10

The best of the trilogy. By far the goriest twisted film I have ever seen.

Silent Hill, the other night. Crap.

If I may be so bold, may I recommend that no-one else in the entire world ever watches this film - it's simply 2 hours of your life that you're never going to get back...

I really enjoyed it, and did find bits of it pretty scary.

I couldn't agree more, if I hadn't tried so hard to forget what a steaming pile of poo it was, I would have posted a warning. May be the worst film ever made 0/10 :td: :td:

Ultraviolet for starters!
What a load of rubbish.
Totally flat, no depth at all.
Most of the camera work/effects reminded me of Captain Power!
It's as though a group of students got together and made a film about their favourite comic and somehome managed to talk Milla into being in it.

3/10 and thats only because Milla was able to make an ok job out of a terrible role!

I seriously felt cheated by this film.

I've seen both and agree Ultraviolet is bad and your 3/ 10 is probably what I'd give it however that still makes it three times better than Silent Hill

Borat movie
I was in stitches laughing at it, would recommend not taking the children to it as theres a scene where both are running & Fighting completely naked leaving nothing to the imagination.
It is very funny show and shows how American really thinks about themselves.

Quality movie and a real break from traditional hollywood type scripts, No shakey god damn hand cam either.

A bit violent and you'll need your thinking cap on but a great piece of work by Scorsese, Jack Nicholson is ****ing superb too.

See it.

Should be seeing this tomorrow.

Looks excellent. Great director, great cast, and based on a great Hong Kong movie (Infernal Affairs).

I really wanted to see this before it came out, as I love Kurt Wimmer's previous movie "Equilibrium".

I've heard so many bad things about it, though, that I don't think I'll bother.

Apparently the studio edited the fight scenes, and also cut more than half an hour from the movie overall, rendering it pretty crap. There is an unrated extended cut region 1 DVD, with an extra 7 minutes of footage, but that's probably not enough to rescue it.

I can't believe this film has any links with Equilibrium!
Milla spends most of the movie with no nose, only two nostrals due to the crummy airbrush effect everyone has.

X Men 3 - The last stand. 1/10.

Absolute s...manure. It was just like a patchwork of set-pieces, which weren't that good anyway. I was even wanting the bad guys to win, as a result of what little story there was. Phoenix - what was the point to writing that character in? She did nothing really, apart from make large fountains.

A major let down after X Men 2...

PotC Dead Man's Chest - enjoyed it, can't wait for the next one; 7/10

MI3 - thought it actually had more depth than the previous ones, its the usual leave your brain at the door action but still quite well done; 6/10

Stormbreaker - really enjoyed this, think of bond but with a 14 year old instead, but not "made for children" patronising; 7/10

The Omen (remake)

Why did they bother...From what i can remember of the original, it's basically the same film apart from one scene near the end.

If you're gonna remake a film you don't just copy the original exactly. It needs to have the same basic outline but with new direction.

Watch the original film in this case. It's a lot scarier. The new Damien just can't pull off the evilness of the original.

I know what you mean about the ending, but the suspense value was fairly good. That's the reason I didn't mark it down as much as you did. You're a harsh critic Jules. :D

Casino Royale - the current one, not that 1960s spoof thing.

Well worth the cinema ticket. A reinvention of the Bond genre. The reliance on far fetched gadgets has gone. Only one decent chase scene, and that was entirely on foot albeit through a building site with some rather death defying leaps. The film seemed to have a gritty edge to it, in most cases, relying on the actors rather than apparent computer effects. Might have been just a tad long though, I was certainly wondering when we'd reach the end for the last 20 minutes or so.

Hugh 01-12-2006 19:37

re: Rate the last movie you saw

As above - Casino Royale.

9/10 - perhaps the poker game went on a bit too long; other than that, very gritty and extremely enjoyable.

Great opening sequence, and for once, not based on special effects.

i have to agree 100%. I'm a big Rocky fan and to be honest I saw it just for the sake of it being Rocky. I wasn't expecting much from it after Rocky 5, and could not see how much more mileage we could get from a 6th installment. However I have to say that this is a fantastic feel good movie, and Stallone is very convincing as the ex boxer, fighting his inner demons as such, with unresolved issues to finish. One of the best films Ive seen in a long time, has good moral/ethical message, some great lines, excellent acting, and a good bit of boxing at the end.

Kill Bill - just watched it tonight on BBC2. Incredible. The mixing of black and white with colour, the music, the stylised violence, the Japanese animation (I forget the name)... One of the best movies I've seen in a long while - 10/10

Deja Vu. Pretty good action film based up some decidedly dodgy "science". Typical Jerry Bruckheimer fare: Good action, good explosions (it starts with one mother of an explosion), good performances from all the lead characters and an OK story.

6 out of 10 (just don't expect to think about the story too much).

Actually, I think that the way Black and White is used in Kill Bill 1 really does add impact to the film.

You don't have one? I am shocked lol

Yeah, I watched that too. I'd not seen it before. Total cheese, but pretty good 7/10

Hey - I only recently (last few months) obtained colour TV. "Borrowed" a portable from my parents when my black and white TV died on me.

Parents are very useful for many things (my daughter at Uni has found) - food, money, clothes, a sympathetic ear. :hugs:

"you, me and dupree" - I struggled to stay awake - it's a comedy of 1 hour 45 with about 5 mins of laughs.

Kill Bill 2/10
So bored I nearly died.
GF managed to save me from it by finding something else to watch by the time the big nosed schoolgirl was dead and the masked re-enforcements arrived, which I suppose is longer than I watched his other cure for insomnia: Pulp Fiction (-3/10)

Agreed. I too don't like Pulp Fiction. Yet when I tell people that, they always act like I've just said the worst thing in the world. And after seeing the trailer for KB, I'm not bothered about that either.

I generally get the same reaction about KB, PF, and the Godfather when I tell people I dont like any of them.

Monty Python's Life of Brian

10/10.

Saw this last night with some friends, it was a late show at the Cambridge Art Cinema.

First time I've seen it in years, & it's still absolutely hilarious.

One of the funniest films I've ever seen.

Bignose? Who are you calling "big nose"? Your nose is going to be three foot wide across your face by the time I'm finished with you!

I sort of agree. It's a nice enough film, with some good laughs. No massively funny bits though, and I am starting to get a little bored with Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson/Will Ferrell films as they do seem to have released an awful lot of them over the past five years. I put them together as they are often in each other's films.

Leave your brain at the door and just sit back and enjoy this silly yet well filmed movie.
