Thee upstream power is a decimal point out! Who checks the firmware? A lock of product assurance.

Also nothing in the VM forums on what this release does/fixes. Typical.

I think over the years I been with NTL/Virgin it's been a race to the bottom. Yes, they may keep speeds up, but it's become a poor place for Customer support and QA for firmware. As you say Seph they can't even produce firmware Version Release notes
You would nearly think they are only in it for the money ……..

Thank you for providing evidence.

Did your IP address change with the upgrade? I ask this because if they haven't given you a new IP, that, in my view, would indicate that they are trialling you without a dedicated connection. That in itself would be encouraging because it would suggest that VM are confident about providing the service on the network as it is. I was on a proof of concept trial some years years ago, (400/25) but was given a dedicated connection and different kit.

I wouldn't be surprised if the triallists did report the flashing light fault and the upstream Power error as those faults are so obvious, it's probably a case of it wasn't acted on by VM before it was released to the public as that often happens.

Re: Hub 3 updated

Apparently VM have updated my hub

We’ve just updated your Hub 3 with Intelligent WiFi technology. It adapts to your home to help deliver our most reliable WiFi signal.

Now that Intelligent WiFi is live in your home, it’ll:

Optimise itself to make sure your devices keep getting the best signal available
Automatically switch your gadgets over to the quietest channel available
Seamlessly move your devices to the best frequency for the room you’re in
Share out your WiFi evenly, so your newer gadgets won’t be held back by older ones

As part of this upgrade, you can use our Virgin Media Connect app to scan your home and check signal strength from room to room. If the app finds a WiFi blackspot we’ve missed, you can order another WiFi Booster at no extra cost right through the app.

Interesting... My VM email states"As part of this upgrade, you can use our Virgin Media Connect app to scan your home and check signal strength from room to room. If the app finds a WiFi blackspot we’ve missed, you can order another WiFi Booster for £3 extra a month, right through the app.

My BQM is better recently.

It depends on your bundle - customers who have Full House or VIP with a Hub 3 can get a free Booster - while they remain on that bundle.

Thanks Ben. Any specs on the VM booster, single/dual band, speed etc. £36 a year seems steep compared to retail versions.

Thanks. How many versions and what specs? Which one do VM supply?

For a second there I read...:D:D:D

"Shamelessly move your devices to the best frequency for the room you’re in"

Wouldn’t all this frequency hopping cause glitching?

I also received the same notification that they have upgraded me to "Intelligent Wifi"... I haven't logged into the router itself yet to check what settings have changed however, I did truy to use the app to "optimise" my broadband and check for dead spots. As I have Devolo Powerlines around the house I wasn't expecting to find any dead spots however, as soon as I moved into a room with one of the Powerlines, the app said that it couldn't assess the room as it wasn't connected to the Router but to a "Home Networking device", even though all the SSID and passwords are the same as the routers. Not sure why I would get this error/message... surely the app is just checking the strength of WiFi in the room regardless of whether it's through a Powerline or from the router itself?

My professional advice, as. A person dealing with WiFi design and installation, is to turn the stupid new facility off. It willdrive you mad.

First, channel hopping is bad news when you are in flight unless, when you go to a new room, you’re not in the middle of anything.

Second, VM’s record on getting firmware right isn’t exactly great.

Good to know, Sephiroth... will turn off when I have a chance to look at the settings for the router.... shame there isn't a way to access the settings remotely (out of the local network)...
