US adopt strict rules for Visa applicants

Nearly all applicants for US visas will have to submit their social media details under newly adopted rules.

The State Department regulations say people will have to submit social media names and five years' worth of email addresses and phone numbers.
Quote:

When proposed last year, authorities estimated the proposal would affect 14.7 million people annually.

However, people travelling to the US to work or to study will have to hand over their information.
What are your thoughts about this?.

Does CF count ? Will they be looking at the Trump thread? ;)

It’s only (at this time) for visa applicants - tourists requiring ESTAs aren’t included in this.

Personally, I couldn't care less. I have no wish to go to Trump's America.

Though they do ask on the ESTA but it's not mandatory.

Not a chance of me ever going before and even less of a chance now.

Thanks - they didn’t have that question the last time I applied (November 2016).

I believe I applied for an Esta around March to May 2017 time and was asked then. From a quick Google I believe it started around December 2016.

That would count me out if it ever became mandatory :Yikes:

That would make it before Trump.

No, nor me; for one thing it's none of Trump's business - or anyone else's, for that matter - what I do on social media...and for another, I don't do anything on social media!

I've never had a Facebook account/profile/whatever the damn thing's called. I've never used Twitter and don't ever intend to. This and Fireflyfans.net are the only message boards I frequent these days.

No, I think any possible visit even as a tourist (because how long will it be before this applies to tourists as well? Thin end of the wedge...) will have to wait until the current nonsense, i.e. Trump's presidency, is consigned to the dustbin of American history where it belongs.

On an unrelated note can I just say that Trump is a great guy who really knows what he is doing?

You're obviously being sarcastic to his highness, so you're still not allowed in !

Yes and I'm sure I'll grow my hair back.

This is nothing really that new....

...but any excuse to have a bash @ Trump, I guess.

A British Couple were denied entry in 2012 (During Obama's Presidency) for tweeting they were looking forward to absolutely destroying America. What they meant was have a good time, U.S did not see it this way and treated them as a terrorist threat with that single tweet.

In another tweet, Mr Bryan made reference to comedy show Family Guy saying that he would be in LA in three weeks, annoying people "and diggin' Marilyn Monroe up".

Mr Bryan told the newspaper that he was questioned for five hours about his Twitter messages.
