Well that PC is from the dark ages! :D

I don't game on a PC but still build my own when they go tits up.

So what i have now is more than sufficient for my needs.

Intel i3 4170
Use the built in GPU
16GB RAM
120GB SSD
2x 2TB HDDs
Windows 10 64bit
Firefox although i used to use Chrome until Quantum came out.

Re: What kind of computer are you using?

A home build that has been upgraded a number of times. Originally 98SE but now XP SP2. (original install)

128G SATA SSD for the OS and programs, 500G SATA Data drive, 2G RAM, FX5200 graphics. Sempron 3300 CPU (64bit Athlon core) Iiyama Prolite 1080p 28" screen. All a bit long in the tooth but it runs well enough and still supports some old legacy 16 bit programs.

As I use it for hardware and software development it needs to have lots of connectivity so 4 USB ports, legacy serial and parallel ports.

I also have an HP Probook 450 laptop (Intel i3) with 128G SSD running W7 pro for anything that needs a 64bit OS.

Re: What kind of computer are you using?

Intel Quad 2.4Ghz, 3Gb RAM, 2x1Tb HD, Vista... and as solid as a rock. Firefox browser as no other runs on Vista these days. But all my other programs do including MsMoney 3, MsWorks 2, and PaintShopPro 6.

Kabaal 12-03-2018 11:38

Re: What kind of computer are you using?

i5 2500k, 8GB, Win 10, no GPU. Had an AMD 470 GPU in it but it died a year or so ago and card prices were getting silly due to mining so bought a PS4 instead of replacing it and haven't looked back.

The only reason i still have the PC is torrents and media storage tbh. Between tablets and the PS4 it's became pretty much redundant outside of those. It takes up far too much room and one of these days i should get around to doing something about it.

You listen to 8 Track Tapes, prefer Mono over Stereo, VHS over DVD/Bluray, SD over HD, and use a PC from 1995. Something just don't add up here.

He has a pet dinosaur as well ;)

I'm quite impressed anyone can still use IE6, I would have though many sites would fail now.

I have three desktops, but the one I mainly use atm is about 4 years old.
Its an Intel Core i5-3340 3.10GHz, running Windows 7 Professional (with built in Intel HD Graphics)

Is the version of IE6 the same on XP sp2 as it is on 98se? -- Well you have the colourful UI @ the top like I do on MyIE2 right?

The IE6 is from the install of Office 2000 pro. I don't use it as my main browser as I'm a FF user but for some strange reason I need to use it when configuring my Buffalo router as FF won't display the sub-pages properly.

BTW the office 2000 has the MS plug-in to support the later x file formats. Free download at MS central.

Finally a lot of the CAD tools I use are being supported under Linux so I think on the next rebuild that'll be the way to go.

Max out your RAM and fit an SSD for the main OS. Not too costly but will reward you in spades. No need to upgrade the OS.

My home PC is pretty old now - Core 2 Duo, 8Gb RAM. Upgraded it with an SSD a couple of years back - the best upgrade you can ever make!

Getting itchy feet now and thinking of building a new machine - AMD Ryzen 1600 (or maybe 2600 when it comes out) 16Gb RAM, M.2 SSD plus a 1TB spinning drive. Nice!

peanut 14-03-2018 09:30

Re: What kind of computer are you using?

i7 - 4770k, 16gb Ram, 14TB Hard drives, 2 x 250gb SSDs, GTX 1080, Win 7.

I doubt I'll be upgrading anything for a while as the lack of PC games these days is quite a factor. Mainly use the PC for TV out to AV which works very well.

Re: What kind of computer are you using?

Intel i5-3570K 3.40Ghz overclocked to 4.7Ghz
16GB RAM
Win 10 Home 64bit
250GB Samsung SSD for OS and games
2TB hard drive
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 2GB
2 x 24" monitors

It's about 5 years old, but does what I need it to do - I might add another SSD for games and change the graphics card for a 1070, but not just yet.

I mainly use my Macbook Pro(2012)

2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) with 6MB L3 cache
4GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory
500GB 5400-rpm hard drive
15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory
Latest OSX High Sierra update installed

Although I need to double the RAM and replaced the HDD with a Solid State drive ASAP.

I also use a Samsung Galaxy TAB S2 10.1" Android Tablet.

I also have a black obelisk.

Behind the door on the front there is:

Core i7 6700 @ 3.4GHz
32GB RAM
MSi GTX1080
2x500GB SSD
Single display: Asus PG279Q

or

2014 Macbook Pro: 16GB, 500GB SSD, GT750M still running Yosemite since us folks using these things as mobile music workstations are generally scared of upgrading.

Have you looked to see how many scripts are running on the sites that you visit and what they're all doing? Mostly they are targetted advertising trackers but there are some really nasty ones out there.

I run a scriptblocker and only allow the ones that are absolutely necessary for a site to function and they're on a whitelist. These being mainly common Google API libraries and video helpers/cdns
