English Cricket
England were bowled out for 58 - their sixth lowest Test total - on the first day of the Test series in New Zealand.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/43495372 No surprise sadly as with the incompetent buffoons at the helm of English cricket they could not organise a piss up in a brewery.:( |
Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
At some point, we will be creating a new Ashes urn because of the abysmal scores we seem to be producing. Mind you, we had this cycle not so long ago. I mean, Australia won every Ashes series between 1987 and 2005, so it's to be expected that we will have another cycle of mediocrity (if we can even call it that) before we get our next generation of stars through that will put us back at the top again.
|
Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
The original Ashes are tiny (just bails or something), with the current performance you'd need something bigger and burn all the bats as well.

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
27-9 at one point.:(

For your attention!! All bat species, their breeding sites and resting places are fully protected by law - they're European protected species. You may be able to get a licence from Natural England if you can't avoid disturbing them or damaging their habitats, or if you want to survey or conserve them . Like the cricket squad you should be ashamed :dozey: |

A captain who seems to not know what direction he is going in plus players who need to learn the art of defensive technique again.

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
We've just forgotten how to play Test Matches and can't adapt to the conditions. Too much of the One Day and 20/20 crap. Wonder if Geoffrey Boycott is available for selection?
|
Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
Bad decision to bat first from Root, then they take ten wickets by pitching on a full length and England still continue to bowl short, back of a length stuff.
Good grief it's not rocket science. |

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
Aside from the statistics (my eyes glaze over some of it) isn't it usually a good idea to bat last (4th innings) as the crease / outfield has softened some by day 4 or 5 where as it starts off quite a lot firmer / bouncier?
The boys division used to go down and practice at big stadiums at my old school and the only thing that they said made it difficult was chasing down a big total. (Though those pitches were not kept to professional standards of course). |
Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
Batting in the fourth innings is 'in most instances' the hardest, especially if the opposition have one or two top class spin bowlers.
When the pitch is hard and fast it helps the quicker bowlers but also helps GOOD batsmen score quickly. By the 4th or 5th day the pitch has become worn and the fast bowlers foot marks give the spin bowlers a huge help, especially against left handed batsmen. The problem yesterday was that at 10:30 the sun was out and at 11:00 when the game started the clouds had rolled in. Everyone knows that when you have warm, muggy conditions and cloud cover at Headingly the ball swings and seams prodigiously. Batting fourth is only easy when you have a very small total to aim at, quite a lot of the wins from sides batting second involve the side batting first batting badly and getting a very low score, conditions and usually the pitch improve on days 2 and 3, the team batting second then makes a massive score, batting the other side right out of the game so that they succumb by an innings or have no sort of total to bowl at in the fourth. |

Lol...if only cheerleaders existed in cricket like 15 years ago...I could have claimed to be into cricket, too and gotten like 4 to 5 days off school, too. (Well it was closer to 3 as they started on Thursdays and played through weekends...)
And yeah, they never made it to a day 5, lol. |
Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again!!!!
No Test matches till August now, Should have been a 3rd Test with Pakistan to decide things. Instead they've squeezed in a pointless money making one day series with the Aussies. They are killing the game.

Agreed, a test series should always be at least three games. I am actually going to the ODI v Australia at Old Trafford on the 24th. 😎

The beauty of Test cricket is that there is time for the game to switch one way then another, both teams have a second innings/chance. Once a one day game goes one way, it gets very boring/predictable - great if it goes to the last ball but very few do. I'm obviously in a minority going by attendance figures ! |

Big game for me tomorrow in the T20 Blast, Lancashire v Yorkshire or should that be Lancashire v England. All of the contracted players have been released for this game so Root, Plunkett, Willey, Bairstow and Rashid are all available to play for Yorkshire, we have Joss Buttler available.
Should be a cracker, Lancs on a good run of T20 form and Yorks with all their stars playing. |

Busy day for me on Friday 10th of August due to the TV scheduling idiots who just don’t give a damn or use any common sense. Lancashires’ last home game in the T20 group stage starts at 6:30 on August th, Man United kick off at the other Old Trafford at 8:00 the same evening. I will go to the cricket then leave early to watch the footy, the chaos on the local transport system doesn’t bear thinking about.:( |

How come Yorkshire with all their resources and England players like Plunkett available are able to sign a bowler, Poysden from another county for just this one game.
It’s like United borrowing Harry Kane for a match, stupid rules. |
Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again !
Will be a huge blow for Lancashire if Livingstone takes no further part. As Habeeb is a walking wicket they are 2 down before they start.

TBH Both teams have batted poorly all season long in red ball cricket, that’s why they are near the bottom of the table.
Haseeb Hameed might as well leave his bat at home, he has been out four times in his last five innings not playing a stroke and scored very few runs either. Yorkshire already 21 for 3, all caught by the keeper, it is a really steamy, overcast morning, just hope the sun breaks through later. |
