RIP.

Oversaw one of the most turbulent political periods anywhere at any time. One can only wonder if Russia would be in the mess it is today had Gorbachev retained more control and power for longer for a more orderly and sustainable transition. Or whether it’d be unrealistic or impossible.

My favorite moment of his is when he went to visit George Bush Senior to deliver him a housewarming gift and instead found the former President wrestling with a local oaf.
