PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

1 Attachment(s)
From 1st July 2019 you will be able to receive your PAC code for moving your mobile number to another provider via text message.

I guess if someone is in a pay monthly contract they still have to let them know they want to leave, how does that work if you want to take your number with you to another provider?

Thats the whole point of a PAC number - you dont need one otherwise.

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

So if i am out of mobile contract with EE and i want to move to say 3 all i have to do is do the this PAC code text thing and that will end the contract so i wont get billed monthly by EE and move my number over to 3?

Is it just like changing utility supplier then?

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

I've always wondered why it has to be so complicated when upgrading your phone (but wanting to keep your existing number) with the same provider. My provider (Tesco mobile) insist on sending a new phone with a Sim card in and you have to move the old number on to that new Sim prompted by text messages. I don't understand why I can't just put the Sim from the old phone into the new one (providing they're the same size).

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

What are the steps we need to take to switch supplier as i have never gone from contract to contract before on 2 different suppliers?

When i can leave EE after my 24 month contract do i just...

1. Request a PAC and get it in a TEXT message?
2. Give PAC to new supplier?
2. When the new supplier asks EE for the number, will EE then cancel my contract and stop the monthly payments?

Is that it or do i need to do anything else?

I think that's how it works SnoopZ, just don't cancel EE first or you'll lose your number afaik.

Thanks for the warning, it'll be early 2020 before i can do it then i will look around for the cheapest deal with alot of data so i can stream music in the car, don't really make phone calls or use texts so alot of data is my primary goal and it looks like 3 may do it for me.

Thats completely stupid - there is absolutely no reason you cannot move the SIM form one phone to the other - I (and the rest of my family) always do that.

Thats it basically.
Just to be clear - this is exactly how it works now - the only difference is that to get your PAC code atm you have to ring up your current provider and ask them for it - the only change here is that you can now simply get it by via SMS.

Will do this 26th Feb 2020!!! wish i didn't have to wait that long!

If someone wants to leave early what generally happens? I guess i still have to pay every single month i owe so i can't justify doing that.

I know, it doesn't make sense. It was a couple of years ago so hopefully their system is a bit more sensible now. Maybe they should stick to groceries. :D

If you upgrade within the contract with the same provider they generally let you off the remaining data/calls/text charge but still charge you for the outstanding phone element of the charges. If you go to another provider then yes you have to cough up the full amount.

Getting a PAC via text was very easy, but how the heck do I give it virgin?

I would guess you either phone them up or if ordering online they may ask for it there, but i've never done this before but i suspect both those methods will work, thought it was obvious to be honest.

Certainly not obvious, upgraded TV/BB/phone and got a free unlimited SIM but can’t find out how to provide the PAC, searched and am none the wiser. They couldn’t make it more difficult if they tried.

Have a look here, not read it properly so i hope it helps, but if there is nothing there just call customer services and give them the PAC.

If your SIM is already active, you can do it here (as long as you've registered for the Mobile online account)

Anyone who now takes out an Oomph bundle with a new SIM order should get asked about Switching during the order process

How did you get this sorted in the end?

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

So i have switched providers and given my new provider my PAC code when i signed up online.

New sim is expected today, will it just automatically switch numbers over when i put the new sim in and how long does it take?

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

Normally takes around a day to fully move over

Paul 09-03-2020 16:52

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

I moved to Sky, no issue.

I got their SIM on the Thursday, and activated it with the new number.
Then got my PAC via text on the Friday, and entered it online as a transfer.
I got a message back telling me the move would happen on the Monday (next working day).

Come Monday the switch happened without any fuss.

Still waiting for my Three SIM, so probably tomorrow and I have already given them the PAC when placing the order so hopefully all I need to do is pop the SIM in and wait 24hrs at most.

Well i've got my new sim, still on a new number while i wait for the PAC to go through, BUT i can't seem to get it to work, all i get it 'sorry it has not been possible to connect your call'.

Any ideas?

That is something i never do, i don't do phone calls that often too stressful for me with things like this and i have to go to work soon.

I'm pretty pissed off even online chat doesn't work, there are no instructions with the sim on activating it, i even tried to register for a My3 account using the new number and that gives me this error. 'Something's wrong with that phone number. Please check it and try again.'

I don't think my phone is locked so i will give it 24hrs and if i can't fix it online go into a shop.

Not a good start from Three......

Maybe its because it is waiting for the PAC to go through?

Paul 10-03-2020 14:32

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

This is why I always believe its better to get and activate the new sim, on a new number, and then switch afterwards.

Re: PAC codes to be sent via TEXT message from 1st July

So this is what is happening now, i can only make out going calls away from home, can't receive calls, text doesnt work anywhere, data doesn't work, wifi calling doesn't work........ so want to cancel in my 14 day cooling off period.

Tried the online chat told them i wanted to cancel, then after 5mins of questions with them arranging this they turn around and tell me the number will be activated in 24hrs! after i again repeated I WANTED TO CANCEL they told me to phone up and gave me the number to phone which i was trying to avoid in the first place.

Extremely difficult to understand them on the phone, however they're saying there is an error on my 3 number so call again in 24hrs as they have submitted it for a fix, so now i am worried that when they fix the error the PAC port will happen and i will lose my EE number for ever if i still cancel!

Looks like they fixed the sim as just popped the sim in and it works, unfortunately I don't think wifi calling works on phones that are not bought from Three so I will keep an eye on what signal I get over the next few days.

Already read that, the intouch app isn't supported anymore and I'm pretty sure yesterday I read that wifi calling currently only works on 3 if you have a phone supplied by 3.

If I do stay with them the next time I am near a 3 shop I will ask there.

I have Android Oreo and the setting i thought was wifi calling is actually called VoLTE but i think that isn't wifo calling now and i don't even see an icon for that?

Anyway i can't find the wifi calling options in Oreo, can you be a little more specific, trying to google it though?

Only S9 and S9+ are currently supported on VM with the latest firmware.

Im, not on VM.

---------- Post added at 10:14 ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 ----------

Just watched a Youtube video of someone enabling it on Android Oreo and i don't have the available options on my phone so that is strange.

It should be here, but i don't have Advanced Calling to click on.
Settings
Connections
Advanced Calling
Wifi Calling

Ok i have just found the option hidden in the call settings and it is enabled.

Exactly what do i need to disable on the phone to test this as i don't have any icon at the top of the screen to show this?

---------- Post added at 10:58 ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 ----------

Issue now sorted, i switched the phone to airplane mode then enabled my wifi, this then gave me the wifi calling icon on the phone and it works.

The thing that is confusing is the wifi call icon was present all the time on EE but only present when there is no cell coverage on 3.

Just to add to this....

My number didn't transfer after providing the PAC on sign up, if you ever have any issues with 3 then dont phone up and dont do normal live chat.

I messaged them on Twitter which seems to get someone with an English sounding name, they then provide a live chat link for something that has already been discussed on Social Media and it was very stress free providing my PAC code and them sorting it all out for me, should be done on the 17th.
