Setting up a new 4k TV with V6 Box

I'm going out today to buy a new 4k TV and not being very technical just wondered how easy (or hard) it was to set it up with the V6 Box. Is it just a matter of taking the connections out of my present TV connecting them to the new TV and re-connecting them to the V6 Box or is there more to it than that? Grateful for your help please:shocked::sleep:

Its literally as easy as you just said, its plug and play

Very simple - just connect a HDMI cable from the back of the V6 box to a HDMI socket (usually HDMI1) on the back/side of the 4K TV.

The TV should automatically select HDMI1 as the default input, but if not, just use the ‘input select’ button on your remote (usually the top-left button).

Depending on your TV you may need to turn on any Wide Colour Gaumut support. Different TVs call it different things but it makes sure you're getting the best picture possible from the V6 box.

For instance Samsung call it UHD Color, but seem to have worked out how to detect it and turn it on automatically on their 2018 TVs.

Don't buy a cheap 4k TV make sure it is atleast a HDR10 compatible telly, this will give you great HDR.

... and look out for HLG support for BBC programmes, such as Dynasties.

And make sure you’re using a high speed hdmi lead.

But don't get ripped off buying one. All ones that VM supply are high speed, and are better than the £70 ones that some well-known shops will try to sell you.

Too true. Just replaced my TV with a 4k one. I was using a really old HDMI lead so when I tried 4k the picture kept flashing on and off. I replaced the leads with a £6 high speed lead from Amazon and alls good, not a single problem since.

Don't you need to change the settings on the V6 to allow 4k?

Good point - here are the links.

https://help.virginmedia.com/system/...rgin-TV-V6-box

Check your Virgin TV V6 display options -
Quote:

Normally your Virgin TV V6 box will automatically recognise whether it’s connected to a 4K Ultra HD TV and adjust its display settings to the best quality available.

However if you aren’t sure that you’re getting the best picture from the Virgin TV V6 box, you can check your current settings and update them. To do this:

Press Home on your Virgin TV remote
Go to Help & Settings
Go to Settings
Go to Video Output
Go to Video Output format
The display format should show 2160p and 2160p 24/25/30fps (pass-through) selected. These are the two formats that enable 4K Ultra HD output on the Virgin TV V6 box.

If these aren’t selected, go to Auto detect to run a test of your TV’s display options. After this has completed it will ask you to confirm the new display selection – which should now include the 4K Ultra HD settings.

If they still aren’t selected, choose Test Formats to test all display formats on the Virgin TV V6 box to ensure your TV can support them.

If you want the Virgin TV V6 box rather than your 4K Ultra HD TV to upscale all SD and HD content to 4K Ultra HD resolutions, untick anything other than 2160p and 2160p 24/24/30fps (pass-through).

Also for those using an AV, such as the newer Yamahas, make sure you set it to mode 1. (For HDR) - Default is Mode 2. For others check the manual or search online.

See http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/..._u/11032/9451/

Worth a mention...

Edit....
One downside to using the V6 4k settings only is that the subtitles look softer. Compared to the 1080's crisper sharper looking subtitles. If you rely on subtitles it is quite a big thing.

Re: Setting up a new 4k TV with V6 Box

With a recent model TV, I'd expect the V6 to automatically detect that it has a 4K TV attached. That was mainly a problem with the earliest 4K TVs

But if it doesn't, simply rebooting the V6 when the TV is attached and powered on may well work.

Re: Setting up a new 4k TV with V6 Box

As I understand it the video output settings are bugged on the V6.

If you tick 2160, 1080p and 1080i with the intention of letting the TV the handle the upscaling then it outputs everything at 1080i, including UHD channels.

I am using this HDMI cable from Amazon with a Sony KD49XF9005BU + Denon X2400H, seems fine:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0040DGUVG

Costs £5.45 ..
