The one box solution doesn't exist and probably never will.

Agree with this i know from experience it's a pain switching between boxes as my tv only has 3 hdmi slots and the hdmi switch i had was manual control.
I ended up buying a hdmi switch controlled by remote control which made life easier only to findout afterwards if i had properly researched my Android tv box i could of had all my services on that lol.
I use 4 devices youview, roku, android box and pc.

Agreed. The closest to this is Roku which has:
  • Amazon Prime
  • Netflix
  • Now TV
  • Sky Store
  • Google Play
  • Sainsbury's Entertainment
  • Wuaki
  • Plus the PSB catch-up services and YouTube
But noticeably absent are Curzon Home Cinema and Mubi. And some apps which would be welcome on streaming devices like Eurosport and BT Sport remain absent.

Exactly. And why suffer the speed problems of Netflix etc., that some complain about when the solution is inexpensive and simple?

Why not, exactly? If TiVo can support apps like Netflix, the BBC I-Player, Hayu, etc, there's no reason why many more apps cannot be installed on it.

Virgin may have business reasons for not doing so, possibly, but this would be a unique selling point that many would value.

Of course, this is subject to the caveat that the new box is more powerful and future proofed for the next 10 years. People won't use these apps unless they are as responsive as other streaming devices currently on the market.

For the same reason that you are unlikely to see Now TV on Tivo; Provider competition.

I wouldn't rule it out and I think Sky has said the same. Sky might insist that it is only accessible for higher level subscribers to prevent its customers trading down.

That's always been my view Den but certain things of late have made me think it's more of a possibility at some point in the future.

Who knows you could be right I guess time will tell.
