Re: Films to see : 2018
Lots of superheroes and sequels there. Hollywood is far too reliant on superheroes at the moment.
Saw a two part mini series called the Wrinkle of Time several years ago which was poor. I wonder if the film might be the same story, but hopefully done better? From that list, I'd quite like to see the Han Solo star wars film just for the cinema experience, but cinema tickets are too expensive to shell out for a load of special effect laden sequels for me. |

Re: Films to see in 2018
Tomb Raider looks like they just took the look and premise from the recent game revoot.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
*sigh* I see the PC brigade got to it, no shorts.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
Bit of a wasted opportunity really with it being Alicia Vikander. Why cast a babe if you are not going to show her off?
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
Well the videogame reboot Lara had the same look so that is obviously where they were going with this as its so similar in look and style.

Re: Films to see in 2018
I am a bit confused by this and don't understand what it has got to do with the X-men. It looks like a standard teen horror and I can only assume that they use their super powers to kick some ass at the end but atm I am not seeing any X-men-ness.

Re: Films to see in 2018
I seriously think 27th April next year needs to be a national Bank Holiday so everyone can have the day off work and go to the midnight premiere. This is going to be AMAZING!!!
:cleader: :omg: :woot: :cleader: :omg: :woot: :cleader: :omg: :woot: :cleader: |
Re: Films to see in 2018
Perhaps you can get Harry and his GF to marry that day, and have it declared a bank holiday ;)
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
superb idea, it would be great if things worked out like that. Doesn't matter anyway, I have got days booked off next year for Blank Panther, Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Ant-man & the Wasp and Jurassic World. I am going to keep my eyes peels for midnight premieres for the new Xmen films and I'll be going to those as well if they do them. I am was umming and arring over Han Solo but I am not sure if it is going to be worth it.

Re: Films to see in 2018
You have no idea. The films I mentioned above are the bigys for me next year which I will be going to midnight premieres for. Every year I make a film list like Paul M of films I want to go and see at the cinema. I have been doing it for a long time because many years ago I found there was always one film every year that I watched when it came out on dvd and punched myself thinking "why didn't you watch that at the cinema?". The best example is The Last Samurai. So after that every year before xmas I would sit down and trawl the internet to see which films were coming out the following year, watch the trailers and make a list of which films I was going to see at the cinema. Sure, there are some which looks good and turn out to be disappointing but it doesn't matter now because I don't pay to see them anyway.
My list for next year is pretty much identical to Paul M's at the start of this thread (minus a few) plus the (other suggestions) he has put at the bottom. |
Re: Films to see in 2018
As noted in the first post, if anyone has any additions for the "other" part of the list, feel free to post them, I update the list now and then.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
Jurassic World 2 - Fallen Kingdom trailer.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
I am not jumping with excitement like I was hoping I would be. Hopefully this is just the first teaser trailer with the action in it and they'll do a more story driven one in February once Star Wars and Black Panther are out the way.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
shame my nearest cinema doesn't do a monthly pass or at least not that I know about.

Re: Films to see in 2018
I will be going to see Maze Runner.
Not sure about the Ready Player One atm, that may be relegated to watching at home when its released to Sky. As to the third one, I have never heard of Alita. Apparently its another Japanese Anime adaption, and for me, those have not been good so far - and she looks just ... weird. |
Re: Films to see in 2018
yeah, I got that it was supposed to be anime but to me it just looks like actors trying to interact with a CG character.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
I am looking forward to ready Player One. the book was brilliant.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
I really enjoyed the original when I was younger so I might give this a go. I won't be going to see it at the cinema though.
I hate trailers like this because I am no better off understanding what the film is about |
Re: Films to see in 2018
Removed and copied to main post (thanks for the update :))
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
Excellent list, very helpful
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
lol, it is half mine and half Paul's. I have copied his (the first post in this thread) and added links in for the trailers that are available so he can now copy my post (and then delete it) and use it as an update for his. Team effort  We did it this way last year because I can't edit his post directly so I have to copy his and then he copies mine.

Re: Films to see in 2018
going to see downsizing on 9th and the commuter on the 15th of January looking forward to both
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
me too for The Commuter. I love Liam Neeson and the Taken films were excellent. I am assuming this is going to be similar to Non Stop and Taken.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
I don't know how I missed this one, it is coming out around 15th June
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
Hmm, that does look rather interesting.

Re: Films to see in 2018
I am looking forward to this, it is going to be a good action adventure film and Alicia Vikander is fantastic actor who happens to be absolutely gorgeous as well
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
I think the trailer is worrying. It looks very generic and almost a parody of action film trailers. She has to fight a organisation that wants to commit a 'global genocide' :erm:
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
It looks very close the the New reboot games in terms of Lara. The boat crashing and many of the action scenes.
I think I will enjoy it. |
Re: Films to see in 2018
It does seem to take quite a bit from the first one such as where the boat crashes, Trinity and I believe there's some characters from the game too.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
looks flipping awesome. Fingers crossed for a double bill and midnight premiere. |
Re: Films to see in 2018
Wow that looks awesome.
Can't wait. |

Re: Films to see in 2018
With the release of the second Pacific Rim: Uprising trailer, anyone having mixed opinions. After watching the first and second trailer again I have to join the main criticism that's been building. What's the deal with these fluid jaegers? What happened to the gritty slow moving gigantic things that made the first one so fun to watch?
Can't say I'm really that interested in watching a different power rangers movie. :erm: |

First was amazing, the power rangers is in reference to the trailers for the second movie. The Jaegers in the first in no way act or move like that.
I'll just have to watch it but the trailers are really off putting. I thought they'd just continue on but it seems they're exploring new CGI and now it looks more power rangers or anime-esque. Quote:

Re: Films to see in 2018
Less complaining, more watching :erm:
To me it looks very much like Godzilla v Transformers. I dont really care as long as its fun and entertaining, too many people take films too seriously. :) |
Re: Films to see in 2018
Saw this trailer at the cinema today and I have added it to my list for this year. I love true stories like this and I remember reading all about it in the US news at the time it happened.

This was meant to be a cinema release but last night Netflix announced they are getting it and it went live right after the super bowl.

Here are the Super Bowl trailers including The Cloverfield Paradox which Stephen mentioned above:

Re: Films to see in 2018
This is why I love Marvel so much, they always get everything just right including the balance with humour. I laughed my ass off at the dig at Justice League.
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
Did you notice the action figures had "Wade" on the soles of their feet (think Toy Story 'Andy') :)
|
Re: Films to see in 2018
Nope, but i love little touches like that. They make me laugh and also show that the writers and producers care about what they do and pay attention to detail = one flipping amazing film. I am very much looking forward to coming out the cinema with an aching jaw and sore eyes because i have been laughing and crying so much.

I am so looking forward to this. I normally can't stand comedies but I am getting ready for some major jaw ache in this one
This is also looks like some quality scifi and worth a watch. Coming out on March 30th which is excellent so not too long to wait. |

Re: Films to see in 2018
I normally cant stand comedies because I find the humour too predictable and/or stupid and thus it isn't funny. I tend to find things more funny when unexpected things happen in a serious situation such as when they take the mickey out of Tuvok on ST Voyager for example. I love sarcasm though and that is the reason why I love Deadpool. It isn't so much as what he does which is funny but what he says because more often than not he is taking the piss out of someone and what he says is what you are thinking and is true. I had never heard of him before the first film and knew nothing about him and I only watched it because it was Marvel but I was crying with laughter as soon as the opening credits started. The type of humour is right up my street and even the reference in the trailers to stuff like Superman's moustache made me laugh my ass off. It is just genious comedy.

Re: Films to see in 2018
I don't think it is going to be a cinema job but it might be worth a watch when it gets released on bluray |

Re: Films to see in 2018
To be honest I'm rather fed up with the constant reworking of old TV and classic films plus the constant'rebooting' of comic and SF series. It's become rather boring so much so I'm not prepared to pay stupid prices to see them either at the cinema or on my TV screen in whatever format..

Re: Films to see in 2018
To an extent I do agree, however there are many reasons to reboot or remake an old series/movie. The main one being nostalgia.
People love things from when they were younger and any excuse to relive that means companies are always going to opt for that these days. Some modern versions can actually be good however .Take Westworld for example. |
