Re: Films to see : 2018

Lots of superheroes and sequels there. Hollywood is far too reliant on superheroes at the moment.

Saw a two part mini series called the Wrinkle of Time several years ago which was poor. I wonder if the film might be the same story, but hopefully done better?

From that list, I'd quite like to see the Han Solo star wars film just for the cinema experience, but cinema tickets are too expensive to shell out for a load of special effect laden sequels for me.

Mission Impossible 6 - 27th July 2018 (Still, despite Tom Cruise suffering an injury during filming)

Bit of a wasted opportunity really with it being Alicia Vikander. Why cast a babe if you are not going to show her off?

Re: Films to see in 2018

Well the videogame reboot Lara had the same look so that is obviously where they were going with this as its so similar in look and style.

I am a bit confused by this and don't understand what it has got to do with the X-men. It looks like a standard teen horror and I can only assume that they use their super powers to kick some ass at the end but atm I am not seeing any X-men-ness.

superb idea, it would be great if things worked out like that. Doesn't matter anyway, I have got days booked off next year for Blank Panther, Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Ant-man & the Wasp and Jurassic World. I am going to keep my eyes peels for midnight premieres for the new Xmen films and I'll be going to those as well if they do them. I am was umming and arring over Han Solo but I am not sure if it is going to be worth it.

Quite a few films there one is looking to see General.

General Maximus 01-12-2017 07:51

Re: Films to see in 2018

You have no idea. The films I mentioned above are the bigys for me next year which I will be going to midnight premieres for. Every year I make a film list like Paul M of films I want to go and see at the cinema. I have been doing it for a long time because many years ago I found there was always one film every year that I watched when it came out on dvd and punched myself thinking "why didn't you watch that at the cinema?". The best example is The Last Samurai. So after that every year before xmas I would sit down and trawl the internet to see which films were coming out the following year, watch the trailers and make a list of which films I was going to see at the cinema. Sure, there are some which looks good and turn out to be disappointing but it doesn't matter now because I don't pay to see them anyway.

My list for next year is pretty much identical to Paul M's at the start of this thread (minus a few) plus the (other suggestions) he has put at the bottom.

Paul 01-12-2017 15:04

Re: Films to see in 2018

As noted in the first post, if anyone has any additions for the "other" part of the list, feel free to post them, I update the list now and then.

I am not jumping with excitement like I was hoping I would be. Hopefully this is just the first teaser trailer with the action in it and they'll do a more story driven one in February once Star Wars and Black Panther are out the way.

I will be going to see Maze Runner.

Not sure about the Ready Player One atm, that may be relegated to watching at home when its released to Sky.

As to the third one, I have never heard of Alita.
Apparently its another Japanese Anime adaption, and for me, those have not been good so far - and she looks just ... weird.

General Maximus 11-12-2017 21:17

I think the trailer is worrying. It looks very generic and almost a parody of action film trailers. She has to fight a organisation that wants to commit a 'global genocide' :erm:

Stephen 24-01-2018 08:42

Re: Films to see in 2018

It looks very close the the New reboot games in terms of Lara. The boat crashing and many of the action scenes.

I think I will enjoy it.

cimt 24-01-2018 10:48

Re: Films to see in 2018

It does seem to take quite a bit from the first one such as where the boat crashes, Trinity and I believe there's some characters from the game too.

With the release of the second Pacific Rim: Uprising trailer, anyone having mixed opinions. After watching the first and second trailer again I have to join the main criticism that's been building. What's the deal with these fluid jaegers? What happened to the gritty slow moving gigantic things that made the first one so fun to watch?

Can't say I'm really that interested in watching a different power rangers movie. :erm:

First was amazing, the power rangers is in reference to the trailers for the second movie. The Jaegers in the first in no way act or move like that.

I'll just have to watch it but the trailers are really off putting. I thought they'd just continue on but it seems they're exploring new CGI and now it looks more power rangers or anime-esque.

Quote:

My chief complaint about this movie trailer is what they have done to the Jaeger's. In the first movie, the Jaeger's were slow juggernauts, their movements conveyed the weight and enormity of the Jaeger's. They were titanic robots that took seconds to raise there arms over their head for power blows.
This^ is the complaint I have

They haven't remade it. Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel. The banks children are grown up and that's them in the trailer. The young child seen is one of their children.

Never been a fan of these American comedy films but Deadpool 2 looks pretty good from the clips l have thus seen so far.

General Maximus 01-04-2018 09:05

Re: Films to see in 2018

I normally cant stand comedies because I find the humour too predictable and/or stupid and thus it isn't funny. I tend to find things more funny when unexpected things happen in a serious situation such as when they take the mickey out of Tuvok on ST Voyager for example. I love sarcasm though and that is the reason why I love Deadpool. It isn't so much as what he does which is funny but what he says because more often than not he is taking the piss out of someone and what he says is what you are thinking and is true. I had never heard of him before the first film and knew nothing about him and I only watched it because it was Marvel but I was crying with laughter as soon as the opening credits started. The type of humour is right up my street and even the reference in the trailers to stuff like Superman's moustache made me laugh my ass off. It is just genious comedy.

To be honest I'm rather fed up with the constant reworking of old TV and classic films plus the constant'rebooting' of comic and SF series. It's become rather boring so much so I'm not prepared to pay stupid prices to see them either at the cinema or on my TV screen in whatever format..

Welcome to the risk averse present.

Studios go for a known franchise every time, rather than risk millions on something new.

Whilst that happens, there have been some great original (not reboots) recently.

Black Panther, Ready Player One, The Death of Stalin, A Wrinkle in Time, A Quiet Place, Coco, Dunkirk, Baby Driver, Atomic Blonde, Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri, Molly’s Game, Logan Lucky, are all ‘original’ films I’ve enjoyed over the last six months or so (I’ve also enjoyed the blockbusters as well, mostly).

To an extent I do agree, however there are many reasons to reboot or remake an old series/movie. The main one being nostalgia.

People love things from when they were younger and any excuse to relive that means companies are always going to opt for that these days.

Some modern versions can actually be good however .Take Westworld for example.
