Chelsea Transfers Killing Football

I am not a Chelsea fan, but a mad football supporter, but l feel strongly that the mad and stupid prices they are paying for players in the transfer market, is absolutley outrageous, in todays Daily Mirror, Chelsea are preparing a transfer deal for a palyer called, KAKA, from AC Milan and the deal is 50 MILLION pounds, NO player is worth that amount of money, each year clubs put there prices up, and the cost of shirts, so in the end the fan, you and me, have to pay for that player, if you look at it, Chelsea must have players worth in the region of 400.million, and if they fielded all the players, they had you would have FOUR first teams, it is the same as other clubs and what they pay for players, l think the transfer market has gone totally mad, and it is done to the FA, to install, a capping on what clubs should pay for a player, before it goes totally bonkers.:)

Don't buy the shirts - if enough people don't, the revenue model won't work.

He'll probably get no games in at Chelsea, knowing what they're like for wasting money and then not using the players...

Don't forget, the season is nearly at an end, l bet you any money, new clubs shirts will be out, costing about £40.00 each and entrance fee's will go up, and the season tickets will increase, and it will be the fan, who will be paying the price, l am not picking on Chelsea, but look at the wage, that John Terry is on a week, £100.000, it was said in the newspapers today, that Man Utd, are paying out £90. MILLION, to tie all the players to the club, football clubs, if they can afford this sort of money, then they should reduce the prices, for fans, who in the end pay the players wages. l am not having a dig at Chelsea, but when a player come's on the market, especially from abroad, the silly money comes in, how soon are we going to have a silly price of 100. MILLION or is that just a dream.

erm, Arthur - because they pay this silly money to players, the ticket and shirt prices go up - income (shirts, tickets, Sky money) has to be greater than expenditure (players and other salaries); basic economics.

Premiership football players are worth what they are paid though, think how much money they bring to the club through their image, it's millions. Football clubs are making more and more money and it's not just through putting ticket prices up. It's not as if every single player is on 100k a week, it's only the very top players and ones who bring in the money for the club such as Terry, Ronaldo, Gerrard etc. Thats also the reason why players are worth so much, it's because of how much money they will bring to the club through their image and helping the team win competitions.

The fact there is so much money in football is the problem, not the players share which they do deserve

The top flight of English football is awash with money, and attracts the best players in the world. Three out of four Quarter Finalists in the CL are English. Why? The fans are willing to pay shedloads for shirts, tickets, but most importantly Sky. Also, the Premiership PLC has a nice little earner selling the rights overseas (it's probably the most watched non-domestic league).

Meanwhile, England fail to qualify for Euro 2008 because they play mediocre football. Something's gotta give. A colleague of mine recently went on a football trip. His 10 year old son's team played some Dutch teams. He couldn't believe what he saw: 10 year olds playing on flood lit pitches with proper club houses, changing rooms etc. His lad's team play in the local park. As he said: there's no way we could repay the compliment: 'we don't have the facilities'.

Food for thought, me thinks...

I couldn't agree more. Gone are the days when most of the players actually went to the stadium on the same bus as the fans.

It's so ridiculous now, the money they get paid is wrong, totally wrong. It's not about football these days, it's all about money, power and greed! Thinking about it, it always has been.

On the flipside, and assuming that there's no dodgy dealing going to to get him out of the tax he must hand over, he should be forking out £40 000 quid a week to Mr Taxman ;)
