Another FREEWARE app... http://www.trayhelper.com/indexeng.html

Tray Helper 4.5 - One tool with all the stuff you need!

It's a SMALL Windows application that takes only ONE place next to your tray system clock, 'eats' only a little of memory and CPU power but can:

# no adware, no spyware just FREEWARE!
# quick send colorful e-mails with emoticons
# TRACK if / when and how many times your e-mails are read!
# remind YOU about all YOUR meetings, important events, birthdays etc..
# check all YOUR e-mail accounts (up to 100 !) in background
# auto-delete spam messages on these accounts, important messages can be forwarded to your mobile device. There is also a build in auto-responder.
# build-in e-mail reader is much more SECURE than MS Outlook
# watch your browser's windows and kill all unwanted pop-ups
# take advantage of Tray Helper's plugins (see site)

Re: Freeware Alternative Software List

Some Freeware Anti-Spam for you.... :)

K9 - Version 1.28

K9 is an email filtering application that works in conjunction with your regular POP3 email program and automatically classifies incoming emails as spam (junk email) or non-spam without the need for maintaining dozens of rules or constant updates to be downloaded. It uses intelligent statistical analysis that can result in extremely high accuracy over time.

K9 learns from its mistakes and becomes better and better at being able to identify spam. More importantly it learns to recognize what you consider to be spam.

K9 is for standard POP3 email accounts only. It does not directly support Hotmail, AOL or any other kind of webmail type systems, nor does it support SSL or secure authentication as used by MSN.

SpamBayes 1.0

SpamBayes is not a single application. The core code is a message classifier, however there are several applications available as part of the SpamBayes project which use the classifier in specific contexts. For the most part, the current crop of applications all operate on the client side of things, however, a number of people have experimented with using SpamBayes on mail servers to classify incoming mail for multiple users. The table below outlines the main applications which are part of the SpamBayes distribution.

http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/

SpamItBack 1.023

Tired of receiving spam? Wouldn't it be nice if spammers didn't send spam any more?

Get spammers back, and send your own message once, a thousand times, or as many times as you want back to them. And get a hi-score at the same time. :)

http://www.spamitback.com/

Spamihilator 0.9.8.4

Spamihilator works between your E-Mail client and the Internet and examines every incoming E-Mail. Useless spam mails (Junk) will be filtered out. This process runs completely in the background.

The new Learning Filter (Bayesian Filter) uses the rules of Thomas Bayes (English mathematician, 18th century) and calculates a certain Spam-Probability for every E-Mail. You can train this filter! So it will know your messages even better than you. Hence the recognition rate will continuously increase. In addition Spamihilator uses a Word-Filter, that searches messages for known keywords.

The program works with almost every E-Mail client, such as Outlook 2000/XP/2003/Express, Eudora, Mozilla, Netscape, IncrediMail, Pegasus Mail, Phoenix Mail, Opera, etc...

http://www.spamihilator.com/

Lockspam Free 3.0

Lockspam Free 3.0 is a free email anti spam filter for all POP3 mail clients, like Outlook, Outlook Express and Eudora. Especially, it could be seamlessly integrated into Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express to stop spam from pouring into your mailbox.

Cactus Spam Filter v1.13

Cactus Spam Filter is a free easy-to-use spam blocker. It protects your inbox by learning to detect spam as it's being used. After a short while it has adapted to your personal mailbox and blocks out most of the junk e-mail. Since the filter becomes personal, spammers will not be able to fool it.

Even though this is a brutal, merciless spam killer, no e-mails will get lost unless you delete them. Installation is very simple. No setup is required in your e-mail client; this spam stopper integrates seamlessly with all e-mail clients that use POP3. It has been successfully tested with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, Eudora, Pegasus Mail, IncrediMail, Foxmail and Phoenix Mail.

http://www.codeode.com/spamfilter/

Matador Spam Fighter 1.0

- Bayesian mail filtering for Outlook 2003 with self-learning mechanism
- Creation of corpus both from Junk mail folder for spam corpus and Inbox folder for no-spam corpus
- Check of every incoming message through the filter
- Precreated spam corpus with most common spam words and most common messages
- Statistics of spam received and stopped by the filter
- Actions to mark as spam and no-spam messages that had already been processed from the Outlook 2003 toolbar
- Cleaning of folders through the filter, allows you to process a full folder and clean it of spam
- Auto-update of the filter over the web
- Logging of every action and exception performed by the filter
- Moves every detected spam to the Outlook Junk Mail folder, no mail is deleted, just moved

It requires Outlook 2003 and .NET Framework 1.1 ... (adapting the filter to work in Outlook 2000 and 2002) This is a beta version of the filter... more features are being added in this time.

SpamPal v1.583

- Check your mail against the freely-usable DNSBL lists (aka "blocking lists") of your choice.
- The list of available DNSBL services is automatically updated, so new DNSBL lists can be used as they appear!
- Whitelist the email addresses of your friends and family so that mail from them will never be tagged as spam!
- Don't agree with a listing in a DNSBL list? You can whitelist entire netblocks so you'll never be troubled by that listing again!
- Do you think part of the Internet should be blocked that isn't in a DNSBL list? Add it to the local blacklist and all mail from it will be tagged as spam! You can blacklist email addresses or entire netblocks!
- People and mailservers with whom you correspond frequently are Automatically Whitelisted - without you having to lift a finger!
- More than one mailbox? Don't worry, SpamPal supports multiple POP3 servers.
- Supports APOP authentication!
- Can filter IMAP4 mailboxes!
- Can even protect an SMTP connection!
- Unobtrusive! Once installed, SpamPal sits in your system tray and you can forget all about it - except spam won't be causing you so much trouble!
- Multi-language support! Use SpamPal in English, German, French, Italian or Russian
- Subject Line Tagging. As well as its special header, SpamPal can put "**SPAM**" in the subject of spam messages.
- And if all this isn't enough, you can extend SpamPal with third-party Plug-ins!
- SpamPal will not be able to detect all of your spam. However, I think it will detect enough to make a considerable difference!

SpamBuster 1.10.2

Run Spam Buster before your email program as the first line of defense against the junk. Spam Buster compares the email message, header information, sender, and size to the spam settings you've defined to see if the message is spam. Then Spam Buster even checks the sender against a blacklist of known spammers.

Spam Buster displays the email with a red checkmark indicating they are spam, a question mark if the mail appears to be spam, and those on the exception list (such as your friends) with a special icon. Should you decide that some of the messages not marked with a red check mark are spam, you can flag them for future spam detection. Of course you can unmark any message marked as spam too. Then launch your email program to retrieve and read the "clean" email. Since Spam Buster does NOT download the entire message it is much quicker than using your normal email program which will actually have to retrieve the entire message including any attachments.

Just installed this little gem, all sorts to do with it, my main one was for keeping OE open in the systray :tu: below is a snippet taken from it's site

If this is in the wrong spot then can it be moved, it's freeware so i assume it goes here

TWI has lots of wonderful features. With it, you can:
  • Assign hotkeys for common tasks such as minimize windows, restart Windows, etc.
  • Automatically change your system's sound-effect files every few minutes or every few seconds if you want!
  • Minimize programs onto the taskbar tray instead of just onto the taskbar, either by a keystroke or by right-clicking a window's Minimize button with your mouse
  • Configure a menu of easily-accessible commands
  • Increase or decrease speaker volume with the press of a button
  • Automatically run programs at start-up, and hide them, minimize them to the taskbar tray, etc.
  • Lots more!
  • Oh yeah, and it's free!

The downside to that is that if you use an older version of something you're also getting any bugs or security flaws that it had.

Since its not avaliable as Freeware anymore, may i upload Driver Cleaner. Basically as you may know that when you un install graphics and sound card drivers to upgrade to new ones, bits get left behind, here, there and everywhere. The purpose of Driver cleaner is to delete those left over files and registry keys.

and i just noticed that its too big to upload (its in .zip format)

Some routers will do this for you. On mine, you can block or allow access to the internet by IP address (or range of addresses) and by a time schedule that can be configured for each day of the week.

The software needs to be set to shut off the net connection at a set time .

My sister had me set up a Wireless Router for her on her NTL B/Band. It was a Linksys Router & as altis said this router had the option to "RESTRICT" Internet Time (not that she wanted it but I saw the setup screen.

- Set a "Online Time" like 4pm - 6pm Mon-Fri & any time Sat/Sun
- Stop Internet at 10pm (or any time)

Worth looking at a New Router? If you install something on his PC he can stop it or most of the FREE stuff is only a Clock Reminder (not Shutdown Internet)

A couple of CD ripping progs.

dBpoweramp - very useful, also includes a shell extension that lets you highlight audio files or a folder containing audio files in Explorer & convert them to your chosen format all in 1 go.

Exact Audio Copy - the 1 to use if you are having trouble ripping a CD. I had a CD that had some nasty scratches, bad enough that when I held the CD up to a light I could see light coming through the scratches from the other side. EAC managed to extract all the tracks & having listened to them you'd never know there was anything wrong with the original CD! The only downside is that the worse a CD is, the longer it will take EAC to rip it. The CD I mentioned took just under 3 hours.

EAC can't handle some of the formats dBpoweramp can, unless you set it up to use an external compressor, but I mainly use EAC for ripping problem CDs to .WAV files, then just use dMC [dBpoweramp Music Converter] to convert them to FLAC or whatever.

Very good list, cheers.

This site seems to have the biggest collection, although not all free.

Not free, but ConvertXtoDVD can do that, however you have to tell it how many seconds as an interval to where you want chapters. Say, for example, every 150seconds you want a chapter...

If you want seperate movies, it can do that as well.

For a limited time only..........

A FREE Copy of Camtasia Studio 3

Ideal for anyone who likes to present video tutorials. It says on the page I linked to, that it doesn't support Vista, but have heard of people saying that it DOES work on Vista, so worth a try at least. :D
