The plan for UHD channels?

Hey

So, what will the plan be for UHD channels?

Will we see 3 versions of the same channel? SD, HD then UHD? Or will UHD only be via a red button app like Eurosport?

If it is via a red button, it needs to be a pretty quick load up of the channel.

Eurosport 4K does load up quick via red button.

I wouldn't expect many UHD channels anytime soon , UHD will predominantly be via On Demand and live content available behind red buttons accessed off the HD channel for the foreseeable future in my opinion.

Insight is currently in negotiations to bring their UHD channel (Via VOD) to VM.

I agree. Most of our UHD in the future will be via streaming and on demand.

It would be good to have UHD channels, but I can't see any sign of that happening. However, this is a fast changing environment, so I wouldn't rule it out completely.

If UHD is going to take off there needs to be a channel or two where the UHD content is shown - then those that want to can record it (as they can on sky).

Failure to do this could well consign UHD to the bin along with 3D (for differing reasons)

Almost certainly, it will be streamed or on demand. You don't need to record if it is on demand, of course.

3D is different. UHD does not require glasses.

There is a clamouring for UHD which did not exist for 3D.

There is a clamouring for UHD by some on this forum. I doubt that reflects the priorities of the general population.

It does for me!

3DTV didn't fail because of glasses. 3DTV failed because it was pointless. Have you ever watched 2DTV and thought "If only I could tell whether x is further away than y"?

99% of the populace are interested in far more important things.

What's wrong with wanting something better?
