connecting a wireless laptop

Sorry if this sounds a bit thick.....But I get the fact that I have to connect my modem to a modem enabled router and that I connect my ethernet lead from my router to my main wired pc....and that if I have a wireless router I can then connect a laptop wirelessly...ok what i don't get is....how does my laptop connect to the router is it just a case of clicking the Internet icon on the laptop or do I have to configure anything? will the laptop automatically recieve the signal from the router and thats it....will i have to use the password that my ISP gave me to initially access the net or is the Ip address that the router allocates to the laptop all that will be required...

Yes, it will automatically recieve a signal. This is only if you have a wireless enabled laptop, which you probably have. Then you just need to make sure that the wireless is turned on on the laptop, it should be at the bottom left on the front of the laptop, if not then it's next to the screen I think?

Once you've done that you just need to search for a signal and if it asks you for a password, then enter the one you set for the router then you should have a wireless signal for internet.

You set up a Local Area Connection through the wireless network adaptor on the Laptop. ie tell it the SSID of the wireless network and set up any security you have or ought to enable on the router
