Playing Region 1 DVDs on my Xbox One X

I want to purchase a region 1 dvd, however before I do this, can the Xbox one X play region 1 DVDs and will I be restricted on the amount of times I can do this before the console locks to that region? :)

Not according to this. https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-...ray-dvd-movies

Maybe it is possible if you install something like the VLC mediaplayer on it?

Doubt that would work.

Does VLC play DVDs from other regions on Windows, if it does then maybe it also works on Xbox.

Alternatively he could stream his DVD to the Xbox using the Plex app possibly?

Yes it does. The difference here is that on the PC it is the DVD drive that is region locked. On the Xbox it is the system that is region locked.

Very good point, so i guess ripping/streaming are his only options.

No the console will only play region 2.

Why not a Blu Ray as they tend not to be region locked most of the time.

What I would do is get a cheap USB DVD/R and in set it to region 1, in the PC settings for the drive.

IIRC you can can this 5 times before is stick on the last region change to.

Would ripping to an external HDD work, then theoretically I could watch it via my TV

Yes. Provided you didn't try using the Xbox to rip it. @Hom3r gave you a good option. Though I don't know if that would be successful if connected to a region 2 locked system (Xbox).

As a matter of interest what DVD is it? Is it not available as an R2 DVD?

It's an old cartoon. It is available as R2 but the price is £75+
