I had some problems with this site this morning. Now the website seems to have vanished.:( If any one knows anything tell uz ;)

Lmao... I can't even register. Apparently a valid MSN Messenger domain is banned. I'm trying to use a live.com email... They did actually release it for emails, didn't they?

sites up 3 months lost second times this has happened only the first time the whole database was lost. The posters will get it upto date quickly enough :)

Hi I am a user of Merlins Portal but for some reason I can not log in. i have put my User name and password and it keeps saying user name or e-mail address not recognized and when I tried to re register It says I cant have 2 accounts from the same e-mail address. I have tried to reset the password using my e-mail address and have even tried to Re register with a new account and e-mail address but I cant access it now
As the same is happening to that account and hopefully someone here could PM a mod of the site and ask for some help. My user name is ratc69 so if anyone can help or if you know a mod who could look into this and Reset my account or let me know why I cant get on that would be great as I have been a member of the site for a little while.

He is a great guy very friendly but the site has been stressing him out as of late so tbh I for one would understand. To many leeches on the site take it forgratten I am not saying there is anything wrong with leeches but when they complain about the limits or they complain about indexed posts when it has nothing to do with the poster what the content is it just really extracts the urine

According to them you can't give them money anyway as the donations system was down.

I doubt its a perminant measure. I think the servers have been hit hard since newsbins closure and its folding under the strain give it a bit of time :)

As punky said, you don't get the older nzbs... But that doesn't matter much if you just want current stuff. You also can't download naked nzbs either, only zipped ones... but that's hardly a problem.

I donated a long time ago to Merlins Matrix and Newsbin. I also have memberships at dogz and did have one at united forums but thats gone now too

Tis a pain, being donated and not being able to access any part of the site...the fall back is and always has been nzbmatrix.

I've offered to help merlin (he know's I've got masses of vb exp and db knowledge) but nothing...

The server load mod from vbulletin is pants at actually containing the server spikes - if the server can't cope then the only solution is going to be at the server side, and that means a bigger server.

Agreed m8 i have no intention of paying them anything and i certainly will not be paying any money to any of the other sites going forward. I am more than happy to do my own searching.

The pay thing that they seem desperately to get up running does sound a bit dodgy I'd admit. But is downloading NZBs illegal in anyway? So the way I see it is that if you've still got credit then it's ok to use.

He seems to be getting there slowly, Mysql error showing now.
Merlin has been suffering some problems of late, I hope he can get it sorted and stick with it.
I just hope the leechers don't start attacking him again :(

I usually use Merlin's portal, I'm a VIP, it's got the best search engine, most other nzb sites suck. Why people are slagging off Merlin I don't know, problems ocurred after they changed providers, since then the database has been knackered or hacked or whatever? I hope it comes back soon, I miss it.... the site below is about the best of the rest.

Well i just read on another forum [and i dont know if the poster IS him] that Merlins is'nt coming back and it seems he's just taken the money and ran.
Not sure if you remember recently he was asking [more or less] for donations etc and now it seems he's not answering his mail either, so unless i hear otherwise thats it.
I'd like to go back and tell them its a lie but there's no info, nothing.

as far as i remember he was actively discouraging donations the last few months, but if he has decided to call it a day i wouldn't blame him after the abuse given, following the issues the site had, from some leechers

Personally i'm not too bothered as like most i probably got my "money's worth".

Depends on how you read things, like i said i'm only reporting what was said in another rather "unhappy" forum.
There's always speculation about this or that, i was hoping someone like Zing would come along and say what actually happened rather than leave everyone guessing [assuming someone actually does know].

No he does not know, we have moved on for now.
I have heard that Merlin has just started a new job so is out of the loop for now.
I am sure that if he can get things fixed and has the will to do it he may return.
That is his choice.

No one has spoken to Merlin since the site went down so no one knows whats happened or why.

Merlin spent a hell of a lot of time and money running that site but as time went by it was getting harder and harder for him to keep it going. I do not know if the database was hacked but chances are it was and it was just like he was banging his head up against a brick wall

Then on the counter side of that he was getting a lot of abuse from leechers and other faction of the membership who were constantly slagging him and the site rules off for no reason. We often would see members who gave nothing back to the site just leeching nzbs then complaining when they hit their 20 in a day limit but never post a single nzb or offered any thanks in a thread at all just leech leech leech

If and I am not saying this is the case but if Merlin has had enough of it due to the above then I for one can understand

There is a new site being run by Merlins members but its going to take a while to get anywhere

Thanks for clearing it up a bit, i read a lot of the flack he was getting and i'm not surprised he got fed up, any normal person would.

Oh well if he ever reads this, thanks for all the hard work lots of us did appreciate it and think it was worth chipping in for.

For The Record

Thought as always i would break the mold like most owners of a site that just vanish.

Most important thing and first thing is to say thankyou to all merlins portal staff past and present, mostly past as without them and there hard work in the early days merlins portal would not have became the site it did, the present site staff at time off going for there unselfish and dedicated work.

Reasons Why?
As zing mentioned above most of the reasons but the final nail was indeed the constant abuse daily for a service we all worked hard at to make it work, database was the major issue in the end and it finally went tits up after throwing massive amount of my own money, countless sleepless nights the decision had to be made to close it. This decison did not come lighlty and after much sole searching and a few chats with trusted friends and staff i let what has my baby go.

I put my life and sole and in the end almost put my marriage of 24 years at risk as did others into merlins portal for almost 5 years and it was time to move on.

In the final days i did transfer money from my own bank account and returned 100+ donations going back as far as six weeks but with all the expenses involved trying to save the site even i have limited personal funds but as a person i felt it was my duty to the members to return as many as i financially could, if i missed you i am sorry but the nature of how the site was financed to keep it free for the mass.

Merlins Portal was a unique site with some unique and fantastic members and i met some fantastic friends whom i will be catching up with sooner or later.

Yes i took 2/3 weeks out to clear my head as it hurt to close the site i loved so much and anyone that actually knew me would not deny me that.

Will i be opening a NZB site again? NO but i may join the new new site as a member and make myself known to Terminator, pnp spreader and co and may help and assist them if required or indeed if they want my help.

I hope this puts to bed the rumours i ran with the money (i wish) in fact the site owed me in the end and 1 month on i am still paying bills for the site but thankfully almost all taken care off now.

Owning and running merlins portal was a blast and will forever hold a special place with myself as will the majority of good members.

Its a pity when whiny little leechers complain about a free site. I was a VIP member - under a different username ;-) - and I took the site at face value. There was nothing to complain about. Nor would I have wanted my money back.

Hopefully Merlin will recover and not face hardship/divorce.

Ok I have been staff there before and Merlin m8.I know you and you of all people need to know as you prob do from me your site went down as you know from ,backstabbing staff there as I know.Ok I got banned for showing what they do with hate mails etc.
Your site taught me all as an nzb poster/Staff member.But of all people do not give up on the good peeps that make a good site with a good heart,Magic well I made them and they are ***** and feeked me over as many do just in it for the money unlike you.You know were I am at so let me you if you wanna be like me an honest guy helping a site with with a hobby.

A lot of the members are working hard on building up a new site . You will be more than welcome . It will take time to build up though but its getting there
