Sagem digibox blocking HD reception

My father has just bought a new Panasonic TX 32A TV, when it is connected directly to the loft aerial it downloaded all the HD channels which work perfectly, but as we need to record and play back programmes we reconnected the old Sagem 6700T digibox, which firstly will not download the HD channels 101-111, although it has HDMI capability. That itself would not be a problem seeing as we could watch directly from the TV and record in low definition, BUT after connecting the aerial into the digibox and using a scart lead to connect the digibox to the TV, the signal on the HD channels is so poor they cannot show the programmes on them at all.

This is all totally new to us and the shop couldn't explain it either, and the problem appears to lie with Sagem as the TV works perfectly when that is not connected, but it now means we can't watch HD unless we disconnect the wire each time but use the DVR so much that makes it too much trouble to keep doing. Is it normal for a digibox to suck up the signal and ruin HD viewing or are we just unlucky?

You need the TV to be connected to the aerial to receive the HD signals. Looking at the manual appears to show on the Sagem an output aerial socket. If it does try connecting a cable from that to the TV. If it doesn't then you need to split the signal from the aerial and to send it to both the Sagem and the TV.

Thanks arcimedes, it turns out the aerial had gone in the VCR first instead of the digibox, so hadn't been connected in the right order. Now it's been turned round it's working fine. It's all foreign to me as I have cable and no HD but certainly should help anyone else with a similar problem in future to eliminate the causes.
