Question about GP decision?
 

Hi guys, l didn't know which thread to put this one.

It concerns Gps.

This is the story, and wondered if anyone has had the same problem with there GP.

Some 6 years ago l was taken to hospital with chest pains.

I was told by the paramedics that l was not having a heart attack.

Dr at ghe hospital stated that l was NOT having a heart attack, or Angina attack.

I was told by the hospital that my cholesterol was 9.5 and that l had a block vein caused by cholestral. BUT this would be cleared by statins.

I left hospital after seven days, and given Ramipril, and Amlodipine and Isotard. And my GP has supplied these for the past Five years. And no questions have been asked. They kept supplying them to me. I have had medicals and been told my Bp is approx. 149.90.

Now this is the big one.

My Gp has merged with another practice. And l was shocked by what the new Gp has said. He wanted to know WHY l was on THREE DRUGS that do the same job. And l have been told to go for a blood test. And can come off the Isotard.

I keep myself now fairly fit cycling, and walking. I still take statins and my cholesterol has come down to approx. 5.

Has anyone had the same experience like this

The best advice I can give you is speak to your pharmacist, they will know better than anyone

Also shouldn't this thread be in the lifestyle forum :angel:

As you were in hospital for 7 days and the 3 drugs were issued under the directive of a specialist I can only assume your doctor went with his decision being better qualified to know.

Wait and see what the blood tests return and what the doctor recommends from that.

It might be the case there are better alternatives that the doctor is considering that might reduce the number of medications your taking as others have said wait for the blood test results.

What happened to my Dad is he was put on different medications after his heart attack 9 years ago and only recently his GP changed his medication by lowering the number of tablets he takes with different ones that do the same job just half the tablets, plus I would assume the GP whom prescribed these meds were only following the hospitals advice at the time as previously stated by pip.

Advances in medication changes all the time and I would assume in the 6 years that you have been on your current meds that was the best option at the time for you but I would assume your medicine for your needs has came on leaps and bounds.

Or it could be the new GP is going for a cheaper option with the same results.

My daughter is on 2 meds that should do the same job, but the correct dose of either cause her severe side-effects. So she is on a suck-it-and-see period to see what happens.

My wife was put on a huge list list of meds after a cardiac event and surgery 9 years ago, but the consultant doesn't want any of them stopped, despite 4 GPs questioning their continued use.

Yip I personally think that this GP should be consulting the hospital or whatever specialist/department in who first prescribed Arthur's current medication.

I know my GP does not mess with the medication my specialist/hospital has prescribed without consulting with them first and I would hate it if a new GP decided to make changes all of a sudden without seeking advice from either my old GP in whom know's me well or the hospital consultant who first issued my medication, but that's just me.
