PC Spec Question.

I'm just wondering what CPU people have and if they are an Intel or AMD Fan and why.

I have an AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT 12 Core.

I am definitely an AMD Fan, the last Intel CPU i had was an Intel Pentium 133Mhz. I think AMD offers just as much if not more than Intel for a fraction of the price.

Well Dad u should know our spec as u built the thing.

We have an AMD Ryzen 7 2700x 8 Core.

Again we are Amd Fans as the CPUs are cheaper and since we only use the system for Internet and Word\Publisher the CPU does all we need it to do and more.

Re: PC Spec Question.

My rather dated XP SP3 system that runs the media server amongst other things has an Athlon 64 with a 1.6GHz FSB. At the time the equivalent Pentium Mobo only had an 800MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) so I chose AMD for the build as it was much faster.

I've maxed out the RAM and put in an SSD for the OS and apps so it's still not too slow. 2.5 TBytes of rust for HD films etc.

Laptop is an Intel core i3 (HP pro-book 450) on W7 pro with an SSD for drive C.

I assume the SSD is optimised. I imagine XP does not know what TRIM is??

Correct, XP doesn't know about TRIM. Just keep the fingers crossed over the amount of writes as the swap file is on that drive but with plenty of RAM swapping is not that frequent. Been 3 or 4 years so far 24/7 (Media Server) with no issues.

SSD's are getting cheaper so replacement would not be an issue.

I hear these chips are quite nippy.

I'm thinking of one for a media centre.

Remember the X does not have onboard GFX only the G does. I would opt for a 3100 or the 3300X if you wanted a modest cpu without graphics
