Me too, they know how much we love the characters and so much has happened since we last saw them. I hope we get plenty of flashbacks to fill in the story to break up what looks like an intense present day story arc.

You're making some big assumptions.

There is no evidence they are married.
No evidence that Troi is the mother of Rikers child.
No evidence of kids, only one is heard.

True but i believe it is a reasonable assumption to make. It is highly unlikely that Riker has got together with someone else, banged out a child and then hooked up with Troi.

I think the edit is designed to convey that impression. I could be wrong but I don’t think I am. Time will tell, anyway.
