Or the VM press release.... https://www.virginmedia.com/corporat...ew-mobile-deal
5G seems to be the main boost. |
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
Well that rules out me ever getting Virgin Mobile as we have unusable signal levels in my village.
|
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
I must be behind the times, I thought Virgin used the EE network, not BT ?

Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
I ponder if this is the reason why some VM mobile users are being moved to new tariffs, some of which are quite punitive for low users?

I wish there was a way to move early

Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
Currently with EE payg ( same network as VM). Was considering moving to the cheapest VM contract, but checked Vodaphones coverage in a few of my favourite places and its just not as good. Will stay put.

Apart from 5G (not that bothered, not planning on changing phone for a while) - what could be the added benefits? |
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
Benefit for VM is that BT is a direct competitor. Vodafone network has improved a lot recently. Three is still the best VFM IMO.

Vodafone. Reasonable coverage but crap website.

Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
Do we have a way of comparing the 2 network services

Working for me i get full coverage with EE.

Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
Almost certainly strategic, it removes one big obstacle to Liberty & Vodafone getting closer.
It's surprising how many people probably think that Virgin Mobile is an actual network operator, their marketing is rather good at hiding the virtual bit. Then being somewhere between surprised and upset when they get told that feature xyz isn't available. |
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
I think Virgin Mobile was the first Virtual network operator in the World, they certainly were in the UK, and it's been so long since they launched most people just assume it's a proper one.

I've got a feeling that the Vodafone deal is only the beginning, I mean why haven't we progressed to the new "Horizon" pvr yet and Christmas is coming up opon quick....

Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
I guess it could pay the way for Vodafone to get tv services using VM.
Vodafone were supposed to launch a tv services 3 years ago. But it was cancelled right before launch. They had spent a lot on it and had cloud storage facilities for recordings. VM could perhaps use that. |

Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
Given the Horizon system already has cloud facilities, from what I read if I'm recalling it correctly, in the countries Liberty Global uses it in currently, there is no need for Vodafone's cloud system.
|
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
Why on earth would VM adopt a failed TV system, when they already have two tried & tested ones?
|
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
I can say that the Voda cloud recording and playback did work well and it was a decent service.

Interesting, the Dutch operation is a 50/50 joint venture with Vodafone. |
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
This is a shame for me as me and the wife are on EE and the eldest boy has a virgin sim as EE is the only network with reliable coverage where we live. Had Vodafone before and frequently loses signal. Will render that unlimited sim on the ultimate oomph almost useless ( if I keep the package that long)

I don't know whether putting all your phones onto the same EE account and having access to data sharing would work? |
Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
It’s not really a WiFi calling problem for me personally as I very rarely call or receive a call. I probably get a call once a week on average. It’s just more a matter of if I’m walking to the shops and want to stream some music or watch a film on the bus it’s painful if it works at all on Vodafone. First world problem I know. EE is rubbish where I work and Vodafone was strong there. Swings and roundabouts.

Re: Virgin moving to Vodafone in 2021
The perfect network just doesn't exist of course... But I'd always take MNO service given a free choice/
