No, it is basically the same but elementary data provided for the likes of us. The police use ANPR - sophisticated computer software system with mounted digital camera in their cars. It is also used on some motorways.

ANPR accesses several data bases in milliseconds to immediately show on the in-car screen ALL the registration details and criminal history of the vehicle.
