Iceland

Hi,

At the risk of getting a load of freezer jokes..... Thinking of doing a trip to Iceland to see the Northern lights, etc - anyone got any recommendations, etc? - or is somewhere better than Iceland for seeing them?

Thanks

The best places to see the Northern Lights:

Alaska, USA. Aurora over Alaska. ...
Northern Canada. Aurora Borealis over Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. ...
Iceland. Volcanic landscapes, geothermal hot springs, and majestic waterfalls are but a sliver of Iceland's allure. ...
Norway. Northern Lights over Nappstinden, Norway. ...
Finland. ...
Russia. ...
Sweden. ...
Greenland.

We went to Iceland last year (Feb) hoping to see them.

It was stormy and cloudy all week, so sadly we didnt get to see them.

Did you get your cash back? Sure I remember reading you'd get a refund if the trip was specifically to see them

My daughter's Icelandic friend said that the Lights are poor so far, and he's on the north coast.

The best view I had was from an RAF aircraft over northern Norway at 35,000ft.

Of all the things i could say about Hartlepool, that wouldn't be one of them, however having searching for the images I have to say that's quite incredible.

A shame about the town though :( Like a lot of the North East, significant regeneration required.

Hartlepool's football team certainly needs LOTS of regeneration ;)

Nope.
The trip wasnt just to see the lights, that was simply part of it.

I doubt anyone would run a trip offering money back as you cannot guarantee them, even if the weather happens to be perfect.

I would be surprised if they ever offered money back. The Northern Lights are notoriously inconsistent even if go to the perfect place at the perfect time. Every time I've looked into it they usually explicitly warn that it's a matter of luck if you see them to the prepare for disappointment.

Greyline offer this according to trip advisor, it's not quite as simple as money back though, basically they look at the chances of seeing them if there average or poor they cancel and let you rebook, if they're good and you don't see them they'll give you the cash back. It's not on their website but is on trip advisor and I don't believe this is the company I'm thinking of either. The other half was offered her cash back or 're booking when she went to Lapland before Christmas as it didn't look like there would be any snow
