I don't know what the big deal is with SA? I can get it using Sky Go but there's diddly squat worth watching. The usual imported Sky tripe. Each to their own I guess.

Agreed I find myself only watching 3-4 shows a year from across all the BBC channels that's the beauty of choice. I record probably double that a year off Sky Atlantic not to mention Sky Living and Sky One so for me it's a must have clearly others disagree.

I wonder if Sky's refusal to allow Sky Atlantic onto other platforms may be contributing towards this story that Games of Thrones is the most pirated TV program of the year:

It's not a significant factor. Game of Thrones is popular globally. The population of the UK is just 64m of which half have access to Game of Thrones legally.
By contrast:
* The global population the world is 7.4bn
* China is 1.36bn
* India 1.25bn
* The EU 27 countries 440m
* USA is 319m
* Brazil 200m
* Russia 144m

It'll be a tiny factor Game of thrones is massive worldwide and many platforms don't carry the rights to it or some charge extorsion amounts for HBO (i'm looking at you Verizon and comcast).
UKs tv numbers are a tiny drop in the ocean.
Also don't forget many in the uk who don't have access to Sky Atlantic via their provider would also have nowtv which most of the UK has access too.

It is very likely that ITV Box Office will be available on Virgin Media. ITV have already stated that it will be 'widely available' and it would be very strange indeed if VM didn't carry this from the get go.

And maybe the other big four - Sony, Samsung, LG and Panasonic? :) I also think Amazon Fire and Roku are contenders too. And as ITV can launch an app directly on YouView without BT or TalkTalk, that platform must be highly likely.

Since when have samung,lg,panasonic, roku provided tv subscription?
Amazon and Sony provide a tv subscription service but not in uk yet.
My post was for tv subscribers not apps, no doubt itv box office will launch a app on as many devices as possible including games consoles too.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

This is a new rumour we've had here i'm not sure on it it is a new source.
Apparantly VM were close to striking a deal with BT for VM to carry AMC, however VM went to Ofcom about BT sports and BT pulled out of the deal in retaliation.
If this is true and it is a big IF then it seems VMs petty behaviour is the reason VM aren't carrying AMC.

Although, l am not bothered about SA. As my son watches it on Sky.
I understand VM and Sky are talking about SA and other channels. And are close to an agreement.

If so VM will put the price up again

You will find if ITV Box Office signs with Virgin it will be shown on "Live Events Channel" re Virgin UK Channel 0.

You'll have to be quick, depending on the episode you only have 1-3 days left to watch them:

http://www.nowtv.com/entertainment/westworld

I used a free trial to watch them all over the Christmas period, overrated in my opinion.

I think this is coming mate. I'm sure they said something about this during the V6 demo. The Virgin Movies Store or similar and will be offering the same service as the Sky Store.

What is the Virgin Media Store and what does it offer?

Virgin Media has long offered the ability to rent TV box sets and movies, but from February 2017 you will also be able to purchase digital entertainment to keep.

The Virgin Media Store will be able to be accessed through Virgin TV V6 and existing TiVo boxes, on a desktop PC or Mac, or through a dedicated app for iOS and Android. If you buy a movie, a copy of the DVD will also be posted to you to keep, much like Sky's Buy & Keep incentive.

Non-Virgin TV customers can also purchase content from the Virgin Media Store.

I wonder what the implications of this are for Virgin Movies?

Maybe they will just add 'buy and keep' to their selection options and change their name to 'Virgin Media Store'. Problem sorted.

I thought it would just be a name change with the buy and keep section added.

It certainly does seem old fashioned these days to watch stuff via DVDs! It's streaming all the way for me now! I haven't watched any DVDs at all this past year.

We are getting that way in our house too. Just buying the odd box set to match the others we already have. We were finding we only watched films once. They took up too much room so got rid of a load. Streaming/Renting films via Netflix, Amazon or Virgin Store is so much more efficient and also less costly. I'd rather pay a couple of quid to stream a movie than £15 to buy one to only watch it once.

I don't know if the majority of people are also doing this, but if they are, it seems a strange time to announce the buy & keep store.

Streaming is certainly the way nowadays but yes there is a but if a streaming company that you've bought a movie on goes bust then you've lost that movie and will have to buy it again, also some only license you the show/movie for a set period Wuaki is one you only have the movie/show for 3 years.
With dvd/blu ray you know it's yours forever.
What baffles me is why SKY still do not offer blu ray on the sky store let's be honest the prices they charge for new releases £13.99 you can get much cheaper from places like Amazon, hmv on blu ray which most include a digital copy to to use on ultraviolet which many companies support.
My theory is VM will break that mould and will offer blu ray as well as dvd, maybe they'll use someone like HMV.

Well, if there is a new deal with Sky, let's hope it goes beyond channel number changes!! I really could not care less about them but I do know that some are fascinated by the numbers.

However, what would interest me would be if we had a deal on getting full access to UHD channels.

...And Sky Atlantic... :tiptoe:

Edit:

By 'channels' of course, I am referring to 'on demand' channels, before someone picks me up on that!

I see they are leaving 402 free - the last time a rejig of sky channels left a gap, was for the launch of Sky Sports Mix.
Sky currently have some spare satellite capacity following the closure of Sky Box Office - I wonder if they plan to use some of this to launch Premiere +1 HD, which would then take up the 402 slot on Virgin...?

For those who like to watch the same things over and over, I can see how this might be an issue for them, though.

For those who like to watch the same things over and over, I can see how this might be an issue for them, though.

I'm normally the same i watch a movie once and that's it, but sometimes i buy the dvd or blu ray too for the extras and it's handy to have something to watch if my network goes la la.

Given their poor PQ and lack of 5.1, I wouldn't buy from them anyway.

And when you can pick up many second hand movies and TV box sets for just over a quid, including postage, DVDs can be a great bargain.

New deal with Sky UK?

Probably something that Sky wanted from the start but with VM only agreeing to give the HD channels priority since Sky dropped the supplementary HD fee.

Very true, i've seen dvds from as little as 20p in CEX and our local cash generators are currently doing dvds at 15 for £10 and there are some latest releases in there too.

It's on the top of the page but if you scroll down it's not on the second collection of logos. It's also the Virgin logo and not the Virgin Media logo which is rather strange.
