Trump gets fact checked

A post by US President Donald Trump has been given a fact-check label by Twitter for the first time.

Mr Trump tweeted , without providing evidence: "There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-In Ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent."

Twitter put a warning label in the post and a subsequent tweet under its new policy on misleading information.
Oh dear what will the buffoon do now he can't just makes stuff up and tweet it? It spoils all his fun, maybe there's something on TV he can watch instead.. ;)

It's good that Twitter are doing this with Tweets but they should be more explicit. As a minimum, putting the exclamation mark in red would help.

Would be interesting to see a 2020 ranking of the Tweet accounts most marked-up by Twitter!

As long as they’re not selective about what tweets they fact check

No such thing as postal vote fraud? Really?

The city council election on June 10, 2004 was perhaps the darkest day in Birmingham’s political history as it marred by vote rigging on an industrial scale which left trust in the electoral system shattered.
...
The extent of fraud was uncovered when police found candidates and supporters handling unsealed postal ballots in a deserted warehouse in Birch Road East, Aston during a late-night raid two days before the election.
Problems also became apparent when the number of postal votes rocketed from 28,000 in 2003 to 70,000 in 2004 – and witnesses saw people delivering bags full of ballot papers to polling stations and counts.
...
Of the six Labour councillors sacked in 2005, five, Shah Jahan, Shafaq Ahmed, Ayaz Khan, Mohammed Nazrul Islam and Mohammed Amin Kazi, have never returned to front line politics after serving their suspensions.

Presumably you will have certain criteria before scrutinising accounts in detail. Perhaps number of followers for starters?

Doubtless, there will be some people who say they feel hard done by. They will say it's an alt right/establishment/MSM conspiracy and they've been singled out unfairly. That's life.

The context is the US in 2020 not the UK in 2004.

I don't think Birmingham, Warwickshire is included in the US election, Birmingham, Alabama maybe....

The intention from Big Don is try to prevent those likely to vote against him from doing so.

However this is more about of misuse and lies on twitter generally. If nothing else, should a US president being spending so much of their time on tweeting rubbish ?

Well their heading towards an election in 6 months time, so they either ban ALL political tweets, or fact check ALL political tweets.

So in what way couldn't the various and MANY things that have, and still go on in the UK, be possible in the US?

So, what you're saying is that rules have to be applied fairly to everyone?

While I don't like Trump, I agree. All politicians can lie (look at our crop, left, right and center).

We shouldn't accept it as the 'norm' though, and they should be challenged.
