This one I think gives you a idea off your chances in both getting a card plus what rate rate your likely to get and term of that rate etc.

Re: Looking to get a Credit Card
I have a Tesco Credit card because it gives me club card points on everything I buy.
Not sure what the rates are as I pay off in full each month, it is a good idea to get one even if you pay off each month, as it gives you protection when buying and helps with any credit rating. |

Re: Looking to get a Credit Card
Any of the major credit scoring apps also provide eligibility for CC"s Loans etc.
Noddle, Clearscore, Totally Money, Experian all offer free apps that will do this. (no subscription required for basic Experian either) |
Re: Looking to get a Credit Card
I have never had a credit card .

I have used 0% offers though, before they started charging to do this. |
Re: Looking to get a Credit Card
Remember the points are pointless if you're racking up interest charges. The best card for rewards assuming you pay it off each month is usually American Express, especially if you can get one of the cashback or air miles bonuses. Also do remember that the drawback of these cards is just how easy it is to get something without having the money for it, it sounds simplistic but there is a reason credit card debt is so high. Plenty of people thinking they'll be responsible but the allure is too high....

Re: Looking to get a Credit Card
Our household has no credit cards and we won't be having one as there are many out there who think its free easy money and then end up getting into significant debt.

Very, very true Damian. To be able to gain any benefits from using credit cards, you have to have self discipline and be organised so that key dates aren't missed & all payments made on time or they financially hammer people.

Just a point of interest regarding the section 75 protection.
You only need to have used the credit card to settle part of the payment, though you do need to pay over £100 in total for a single item to evoke the cover. For example, you could pay £20 deposit using your credit card and then pay the balance by another method and still have the whole £100 plus covered by section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rig...mer-credit-act |
