Aberdeenshire: Serious injuries' as ScotRail passenger train derails in Stonehaven

Emergency services are responding to the "extremely serious" incident in Stonehaven after being called to the scene around 9.40am on Wednesday.

Very grim, have seen two awful photos already. 0638 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen St passed Stonehaven and encountered a landslip around 0700.

Permission was given to return to Stonehaven and while running back a bridge collapsed and it fell down and embankment.

Luckily only 12 people onboard. God knows the casualties had it been full.

That bears not thinking about having a train full to capacity as you are talkng about three figures easily there.

I guess the combination of it being a very early morning train and Covid 19 has resulted in such a fortunately small number of travellers. (Six staff, six passengers).

Exactly Andrew but even so the latest news is that three people have sadly lost their lives.:(

A derailment that bad would have killed a lot of people on a busy train. It’s a small mercy that will be of little comfort to those who have lost loved ones, but this could have been so much worse.
