TV Schedule - Summer 2021

Welcome to the tv series schedule thread. This years thread will be different compared to previous years. We are used to many series airing at certain times of the year and it will not be the case this year. As with cinema and film, coronavirus has disrupted production schedules meaning that most of the series which we usually expect to see new seasons start in September/October have been delayed until after Christmas. There was are even some series which weren't able to complete their previous seasons such as the DC series and Grey's Anatomy and and we are awaiting the season finales. The latest information will be posted in this thread as soon as we get it.

Every every effort is made to include all series which may be of potential interest to all forum users however the majority of the series are US produced series and thus the air dates provided are the US network air dates. This list serves to bring exciting tv to your attention and if you wish to watch them on terrestrial tv/sky/virgin etc further queries will need to be made for the air dates. Given the rise of streaming services it will come as no surprise that some of the series are Netflix and Amazon and thus will be available if you subscribe to those services. Please click on the individual series links for further information regarding the series and the network/services which they are available on.

As I mentioned above I endeavour to include a variety of series to appeal to everyone and as such if you feel I have missed something out which may be of interest to the user base please feel free to say so and I will add it to the list.

The thread will be continuously updated as new series and information becomes available and aired series will be removed so check back every month and there will no doubt be something new which may be of interest.

I am pretty sure that most of the returning series aren't going to start till January so the good news is that we have got another four of five months to watch older series. I am working my way through SG1 atm, then I'll do Atlantis and probably BSG.

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2020/2021

yeah, defo worth a watch. I would describe it as an action period drama. I always like to watch this kind of things to get an insight into the culture in that time period and I imagine what you see in terms of the life style and costumes is very realistic. Likewise, as far fetched as the story and characters are, it is probably representative of the cultural clashes which existed at the time and how people dealt with one another. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a boring documentary, it is very action packed and entertaining in its own right and well worth a watch. I wouldn't put it on the top of your list but if you are running out of decent stuff to watch now that the fall series have been delayed I would defo recommend giving it a go.

I think I have mentioned it previously but there is a new scifi series called Resident Alien. It stars Alan Tudyk so I am sure it will garner much interest. It starts on 27th January

Quote:

Based on the Dark Horse comic, SYFY’s RESIDENT ALIEN follows Harry, an alien played by Alan Tudyk (Rogue One, Firefly) that crash lands on Earth and passes himself off as a small-town human doctor. Arriving with a secret mission to kill all humans, Harry starts off living a simple life… but things get a bit rocky when he’s roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world. As he does so, he begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his mission and asking the big life questions like: “Are human beings worth saving?” and “Why do they fold their pizza before eating it?”

I watched the first episode of this tonight.

TBH, I didnt really expect much. I never really watched the original series (saw one I think) and havent seen any of the films, and it struck me as just being another PC remake (aka let's redo this, but of course have a black woman replace the white man).

However, I did quite enjoy it, and will continue watching the series to see how it goes. A nice change to have my poor expectations improved on.

I never saw the series but I loved the Denzel Washington movie (first one). I am going to be very narrow minded here but my impression of the character is that a degree of physicality is involved and casting PC Queen Latifah in the role doesn't deliver on that and this is the kind of thing which kills my realism factor. I don't care how good the stories are and the production quality, if you can't believe the actor is the character who they say they are then it ruins the premise of the series.

for some US networks everything is about PC choices in casting and pushing certain agendas in story lines and for some series that is the only thing they are about.

absolutely, and they were suited for the role because they were physically fit and capable of doing what was required and thus the performance and characters are realistic and believable. Anyway, what about Aeon Flux :D

Unfortunately, many also are, and in some cases they actually boast about it (Batwoman for example). Even the UK is now doing it (Dr Who).

This was (IMO) another case, but as I said above, I think it went quite well (so far) so I'll keep watching for now, to see how it pans out. :)

It is how they edit the trailer and/or scene which makes it look good though. If they want it to look good they just need to get someone who can do what is required and film the whole thing in one shot rather than getting body doubles and shooting it from different angles, quickly cutting between them trying to make it look like it is the same person. Putting Denzel Washington aside from the movie, I think Keanu Reeves and John Wick are the perfect example of how things like this should be done. He deserves an A*.

Tbh I mostly rely on tv calendar to alert me to new tv series. I come across some by accident when reading articles about different things but the majority of them I rely on tv calendar for, that way I get a concise synopsis and a premiere date. I hear about loads of stuff on sites like imdb and tvseriesfinale but there is such a thing as hearing about something too soon. I am not interested in a new series when it has been green lit/assigned script writer/casting is underway etc because it is still yonks away and any number of things can happen between those very early stages of pre-production and the series actually being broadcast.

The film, first released in 2005 and penned by Simon Kinberg (Dark Phoenix) and helmed by Doug Liman (Chaos Walking), centered on an upper-class married couple who are surprised to learn that they are assassins at competing agencies and have been assigned to kill each other, with Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) starring in the lead roles.

The series reboot, which was previously attempted in 2007 at ABC, is set to be created by the Atlanta maverick and the Fleabag Emmy winner alongside Francesca Sloane, who previously worked with Glover on his acclaimed FX series and is under an overall deal with Amazon, as is Waller-Bridge. Sloane will serve as showrunner on the series, which is being executive produced New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer and Wells Street Films’ Jenny Robins.

“Having had the pleasure of successful collaborations with the incredibly talented Donald Glover, most recently on Guava Island, we all started talking about other projects to do together and when he suggested the idea of a new take and iteration on the New Regency film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, we jumped at the chance to get going right away,” Milchan and Schaefer said in a statement. “Adding Phoebe and her company Wells Street Films as a collaborator and co-star takes everything up another level and makes the project worthy of a reimagining for both new audiences and past fans of the original film. We are so excited to be working with Donald, Phoebe, Francesca and the entire team at Amazon Studios.”

Well, I enjoyed the film, so I hope the series lives up to it.

I never knew a previous series existed, apparently it dates from 1996.

That is some good talent as well so it'll be interesting to see where they take it.

New series coming to Netflix soon and definitely worth a watch; The One

Quote:

The One is set five minutes in the future, in a world where a DNA test can find your perfect partner – the one person you’re genetically predisposed to fall passionately in love with. No matter how good your relationship, which one of us can honestly say we haven’t thought about whether there is someone better out there? What if a hair sample is all it takes to find them? The idea is simple, but the implications are explosive. We will never think of love and relationships in the same way again.

I wouldn't normally post a synopsis of new series as it would be featured in the main thread however I do find this one appealing. I love (no pun intended) it when real science is closely incorporated into sci-fi series because if you understand it (and I have a microbiology background which is heavily weighted on genetics background) you watch thinking "could we actually do this, is it possible, how feasible is it, would people be interested in it and what are the moral implications?"

12th March if you are interested

I think it is the metaphorical sense like when we say "we are 1 minute to midnight" when describing relativistically how close we are to nuclear war.

That looks like it could be either very good or very bad. Hopefully it'll be a good show.

Debris premiered. Neither thrilling nor poor. Will take a few episodes I think.

The creator/writer has a pedigree in this genre with Fringe though.

I didn't realise Almost Human was the last show he did. That had potential too. I'll give it a watch soon. From what I remember of the trailer, I thought he could go either way.

I enjoyed it. Wasn't the strongest series but it was good quality scifi. Stuff like this doesn't benefit from being a procedural and I would have liked to have seen a more fleshed out story arc like Altered Carbon.

I dont think it was intended to be thrilling, it definitely had a Fringe feeling about it. I will be continuing with it. :)

Thank you for posting that animé trailer General. Looks interesting but as we don't subscribe to Netflix we'll have to wait to see if it becomes available through the usual alternatives.

Season 1 now available. Downloading.

Something new to watch.
