Gig1 with Hub 4 topping out at 645 Mbps
 

Hi guys,

I recently received the home for to go with my upgrade to the Gig1 service. Everything is working fine, however it does not matter what device I use or what speed test, they all top out at 644/645 Mbps. This makes me think either I am receiving the M600 config file or there’s a fault. If the numbers were more random I would probably say it was line quality but this is not the case.

Would anyone have any ideas on a fix or is it straight to faults?

Depends how you are connecting. What devices are you using to test. Wired or wireless?

I’ve run tests using Apple iMac and MacBook Pro, both wired. Also, the MacBook Pro, iPhone 12 Pro and Apple TV 4K on wireless. Everything gives pretty much exactly the same result.

Make an account with Samknows.one

the Hub4 has samknows built in it will give you speeds to the hub. do it for a few days and if its still low, its a helpdesk call with the information

The file is “ cmreg-vmdg640-bbt076-b.cm”. If the 640 is the speed then it matches my findings.

Yep, this looks like (just over) 1 Gb.

Strange that the name just happens to have 640 in it.

If you're in router mode you just need go to www.samknows.com/realspeed from a connected device and see what that says. Don't need the account creation.

That'll be the model number of your Hub. They are all "VMDGxxx"

So it’s the external output for both wired and wifi connected devices that seems limited to 645 mbps. Weird.

Have you got anything non-Apple you can try like an android phone or a windows pc?

I have a Huawei P30 which gives pretty much the same result. I'm guessing it's more a limitation of Wi-Fi 5. I get the same when in modem mode using my own router. I guess it's time to upgrade to Wi-Fi 6.

I dont think so and even if it was you should defo get full speed on a wired test in modem mode. I have no probs pulling 578mbits on my 500mbit connection.
