Android Google is spying on us? Do you care about privacy?

Android Google is spying on us?

Do you care about privacy?

Below is to protect Privacy if you really care.

Tor, Brave browser and Firefox are best for privacy.
use DuckDuckGo search engine, use VPN.
Use ios, iPhone for more privacy. (DuckDuckGo Recommends iOS over Android for More Privacy in Recent Reddit).

The reality is, it's very hard to escape.

Google is now tracking you on 76% of websites, with Facebook lurking on about a quarter. The data they collect as you browse the web, combined with your search history, likes, and other information, leads to huge personal profiles that are used to target invasive ads at you across the Internet.

The most popular alternative to Android is of course iOS, which offers easy device encryption and encrypted messaging via iMessage by default.

It is not just Android Google but Google. You can download what they have stored and request they delete it. You can also select what they store and what they don't.

It is not hard to escape from the information Google keeps on you. The biggest problem is lemmings just accepting the T's&C's without realising the permissions they give.

Here's a good place to start if you want to take back control.

https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout?pli=1

It may actually open your eyes on what you have allowed Google to collect. Don't forget you accepted the T's&C's and accepted them without reading. Had you read them you could've opted out.

EDIT If you want to make sure you get everything they have select the 50Mb archive in the dropdown box.

It's Android from Google not Android Google.

I have nothing to hide and been using Android OS and a Google account for years.

They frequently use some data to personalise adverts you see among other things.

You're probably joking/having a dig at him but i do sometimes feel myself getting a bit uncomfortable about how much these companies know about us.

There's always an option. Stop using 'free' stuff. Facebook/Google - all free. They're not doing it out of the goodness of their own hearts.

I've been using Palemoon (Firefox derivative) for a few years, with Ublock installed.

30 minutes ago I looked at the Brave website, downloaded and installed it.

Did a quick basic set up of security features, set the homepage and default search engine to Duckduckgo, imported bookmarks etc (nice n easy) and am currently quite impressed with it.

I may find a few hiccups over the next few days, but probably nothing I can't work around . . just noticed if you hover the mouse on a tab it reveals the page, that's handy :)

I run a script blocker to help control the amount of stuff that sites can gather. It's not a panacea but better than nothing. It also stops mouse clicks from being subverted.

Some scripts have to run for sites to function, the most common being ajax.googleapis.com which is a library of common functions and exonerate sites from having to maintain their own libraries.

On a typical newspaper site there are over 25 scripts most of which are advertising / popup trackers.

How do you keep it secure (as they don't release security patches for it any more)?

What do you use it for - this article seemed do cast doubt that anyone could do much with it...

Getting work done on the Windows 98 machine was possible, but not ideal. No modern software supports Windows 98 anymore, but with a few kernel tweaks, OldTech81 was able to get older versions of OpenOffice and Mozilla Thunderbird designed for XP running on Windows 98. Thunderbird turns out to be important, because trying to load a web client for email is simply not happening. Even though Windows 98 works fine locally, it doesn’t know how to operate on the modern web.

The most recent browser that works on Windows 98 is Internet Explorer 6, which was released nearly 16 years ago. Most web pages don’t even load, and those that do are completely broken. The only solution is to use more kernel tweaks to load a better browser, but even then the most recent one that works is Opera 11. That’s almost seven years old, but most websites will at least work. Some larger sites like Facebook simply use up all the computer’s RAM and never finish loading.

It’s possible to use Windows 98 for some things these days, but things fall apart when that machine has to talk to anything else on the internet. It’s remarkable how far the internet has come in the last two decades that software and hardware from that era can’t even access most content.
