'Doctor Who' moving to autumn, confirms Steven Moffat

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has confirmed plans for the sci-fi drama to air in the autumn next year.

Oh great even more problems for the tv channel clashes, already we have strictly and X-Factor clashing by 15 minutes, now with Dr Who thrown into the argument there will be all sorts of arguing. It wont be a problem for me because I hate strictly and X-factor but I am sure there will be in a lot of households.

Let's be honest, Doctor Who has always been an autumn/winter show, perfect for Saturday teatimes after the final scores are in and while it's getting dark and cold outside.

The decision to schedule the 2005 revival so it clashed with three holiday weekends, the switch to summer time and the longest, lightest nights of early summer was always a little odd.

The Beeb seems to have been dipping its toe in the water with the half-season shown in the early autumn this year and has obviously decided it's a goer. Strictly Come Dancing has shown that the X-Factor is not unassailable in the ratings. I suspect what we'll see next year is Who scheduled to begin some time between 6pm and 6.30pm on Saturday evenings, with Strictly Come Dancing immediately afterwards and Merlin after that (assuming Merlin isn't switched to the winter schedules in January 2013 ... although I think Who, Strictly and Merlin would be a killer autumn/winter line-up for the Beeb).
