Pesky Fruit Flies

I wonder if anyone can give me any tips on how to get rid of fruit flies?

I understand all the not to have uncovered food and so on but they are everywhere and its not just me theres loads in the street and our local pub complaining of the same thing.

I have tried the small glass of wine trick which killed loads but still the same.

As a street we think they are coming from the shrubbery in an abandoned building just over the road.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Those and fungus flies. I have a UV insect lamp that seems to get quite a few "customers". Keeps the kitchen-diner free of them.

I have a small plastic pot with tiny holes in the lid in the kitchen. A shot of cider vinegar and a piece of banana act as bait.

In the greenhouse I use yellow sticky traps for the Sciarid flies (fungus gnats) and pack the surface of the compost with sharp sand and a little diatomaceous earth (it's like razor wire to small beasties).

Might be worth contacting your local environmental health team at the council, if there is a property causing it they can investigate.

If they are all over the place look for fallen fruits from trees, or fly-tipped domestic rubbish.
