100 year old survived the holocaust, but was mugged & killed by a heroin addict.
 

I wonder if those who fought for our freedom are looking down and asking themselves why they bothered after the behaviour of some 'people':

Imagine having to live through the holocaust and surviving against all the odds, only for this to happen at the age of 100.

They ‘bothered’ because people who do this sort of horrid act are in a tiny minority, so they were ‘bothered’ about the rest...

It's just been on the news that Artur Waszkiewicz has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing this lady on her way to church.

Waszkiewicz is a Polish name. If he was an EU migrant, this is a excellent example of why those from other countries shouldn't have the right to be allowed to freely enter the UK without any checks on their character/background.

Of course, he may well have been born to Polish parents, many of whom settled here after the war after greatly contributing to our war effort . If his parent/s are still alive, I imagine they are deeply ashamed and embarrassed of their son.

I dont see how age, or what you lived through, are relevant.

I think that's kind of obvious. I think he's more on about the irony of it all.

Still, sadly nothing these days surprises me.

It shouldn't happen to anyone no, but it is obviously worse for someone at such an age than someone at 20 (someone much younger is unlikely to have died just from being mugged).

I also think that she will have thought that she had seen the back of the oppression and degrading/humiliating treatment that she will have received in a concentration camp- only for this individual to bring all the memories back again (being mugged is said to bring about feelings of disempowement, humiliation etc).

More likely to be Polish grandparents (if he’s not an immigrant) as he was born in 1979, so if his parents moved here after ‘contributing to our war effort’ (being at least 21 years old in 1945), they would have been 55 (at least) when he was born...
