This one will be totally CGI. http://test.asipyan.com/sttumblr/images/starposter.jpg |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Well it has to be better than the 2 previous, the first was awesome!
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
At least the third one had powered armour sadly missing from the original and an integral part of the original book.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Russell Tovey has quit Being Human. Oh man, with Aidan Turner quitting last year and now him quitting this year. I dunno if the show will be successful any more.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
GI Joe sequel trailer - rumoured to be much better than the first one (couldn't be much worse).
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
OMG...starring Dwayne Johnson and, of late, cameo specialist Bruce Willis. Not very inspiring. :erm:
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
It actually looks really good. 95% of the stuff that made the last movie awful have been removed.... with the exception of Channing Tatum!
Dwayne Johnson is actually a good actor and stole the show in Fast 5. Deffo giving this a place in my list for stuff to catch next year. |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
It can't be as bad as Ghost Rider... which is also getting a sequel :erm:

---------- Post added at 23:49 ---------- Previous post was at 23:46 ---------- Not seen this mentioned anywhere, but Lost Girl has been renewed for a 3rd Season already. Only 13 eps so far (but it could get the extra 9, like this year). |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Yeah, I saw that the other day :)
IIRC, when it was renewed for a second season this time last year it was only for 13 episodes, and only received the back nine order this summer. |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Ah, that would explain why I can't see the last episode on the calender I use.
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
This one looks like it could be good.
Touch (TV Series 2012) No idea when it might be on over here though. |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Too much movie snobbery around nowadays, everybody likes to think they work for Empire.
GI. Joe was good fun and didn't take itself seriously. Sometimes people don't care about characterisation, layered story telling and plot. Sometime we just want to watch something fun and entertaining for 90mins. A fact that too many film critics ( can there be an easier job?) sometimes forget. |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Absolutely, I generally ignore "critics".
Its usually a good rule that if they hate it, I'll probably like it, if they rave about it, its probably going to bore me to death. |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
New canadian Science Fiction show called Continuum starts on May 27th in the states starring Rachel Nichols.. Seems to be a time travel (future to the present) cop sort of show.

Yep it looks good - though as soon as I saw it I was reminded of Riply v Alien Queen :)
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
I wasn't interested when I first read the premise... "Mech suits versus alien sea monsters? Meh. probably just some sub-par Michael Bay type-crap like 'Battleship' ".
But... Love the trailer *and* it has a good cast (Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam & The Wire / Luther's Idris Elba) *and* it has a top-notch director (Guillermo Del Toro). |

Nice to see GlaDOS is in there too...

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Awesome FX, would be nice if, for a change, they were accompanied by a decent story and a bit of character development.
I fear I might ask too much :( |

Probably not - the director is known for his storytelling.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Those with a long memory and a real fantasy anorak may remember Neverwhere, written by Neil Gaiman for BBC2 in 1996 and thoroughly butchered thanks to old-school BBC low budget production values (think Blake's 7 or classic Who).
Despite the BBC's worst efforts, the story was quite brilliant and was later novelised by Gaiman. Now it has been adapted for radio, and with a stellar cast including James Macevoy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Anthony Head I can't help wondering whether it's been done as a showcase to pitch the story for a TV remake or even a feature film. Anyway, you can judge the story for yourself, it has been on Radio 4 and 4 Extra all week and is on iPlayer for catch-up. Highly recommended. |

I will give it a go. A lot of us have fond memories of a lot of shows but if we were to watch them now they would look poor. I hope they choose a good cast. Avon has to be played well

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Hmmm...I believe the idea has been proposed a few times and not come to fruition.
It would be an interesting project. I feel a reboot to be preferable over a remake. :) I think it would take some considerable talent in all departments to carry it off, something the SYFY channel movies lack to the Nth degree. :( Who could play the evil Servilan without going completely OTT? :naughty: |

Also this series is being directed by Martin Campbell who directed both Edge of Darkness (and the excellent TV miniseries on which it was based), Goldeneye, the Zorro films and Casino Royale, and has one of the writers of Heroes writing for it (OK, the last three seasons of Heroes didn't match the first, but the first was excellent). Digital Spy have suggestions for who should play Blake's 7... http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/tub...fi-revamp.html Not too sure about their suggestion of Joshua Jackson as Blake, as I think he could be too friendly. Having said that, he played the observer influenced Peter in series 5 of Fringe brilliantly coldly, so I could be wrong, and he could play the mercenary elements of Blake well. Summer Glau would be good as Cally, but her presence in a series does appear to be the death knell (although she has appeared in the Big Bang Theory a couple of times, and that seems to be doing OK). Morena Baccarin could be good as Servalan. She played Diana in V well. Arthur Darvill would be good as Villa. IMO, his performance as Rory in Doctor Who showed he can play the comedy elements of the role, as well as the action. |

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Three new series coming in the Autumn (from CW) that I have my eye on.
The Originals : A spinoff of the The Vampire Diaries. The series revolves around the original vampire family. The Tomorrow People : Based on the UK 1970s science fiction seriesabout young people from around the world who are the next next step in human evolution and have the powers of teleportation and telepathy. The 100 : Ninty seven years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, a spaceship containing the few remaining human survivors assigns a mission to 100 juvenile delinquents - travel back to Earth and explore whether recolonizing the planet is possible. |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
I'm interested in all 3 of them. Looks like this year is going to be a good one for TV. When it comes to The Originals though, I'm glad Klaus is off TVD because he was supposed to be the main baddie but he stopped being that ages ago.

Not been mentioned anywhere afaik, but both Agents of SHIELD and The Originals were picked up (extended) for full 22 episode seasons.
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Bones has been renewed already for a 10th season.
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
SyFy have renewed Haven for a 5th season, of 26 episodes.
However, this is another of their "order more, and then split it" tricks. There will be 13 eps in 2014, and another 13 in 2015 (previous seasons have all been 13 eps). So basically, they have renewed it for season 5 and season 6, just called it season 5. |
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
I'm betting it gets announced in about December that it's been "cancelled". It means they don't have to redo contracts for x amount of years just for one more season. 5 seasons is about right for a SyFy show these days.
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Arrow, Supernatural, The Originals & The Vampire Diaries have all been renewed for the 2014/15 season.
|
Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets
Question. Why do you post the renewals/cancellations in here when there's an actual thread for that?
Arrow being renewed should certainly help the Flash spin-off. Also there's gunna be a backdoor pilot for a spin-off for Supernatural called Supernatural: Tribes. It's about a rookie cop who discovers monsters after the death of his girlfriend. He goes about getting revenge for her death and it also shows how Chicago has it's own monster underworld similar to New York's five families. It'll be interesting to see if it gets picked up. I hope it works though because The CW is really becoming one of my favourite channels. |

Watched the first episode of Star Crossed this week. I guess its target market is teenagers but I found it an ok watch
Has anyone mentioned Bitten? another wearwolf series but ive seen 2 episodes and its reasonable. Few more to go through before I judge it |
