Unless you already have decided you can live without Google and all it's intrusiveness. Download google on an android and you get every other app of theirs you didn't want and it's impossible to remove.

Re: Google blocks Huawei access to Android updates after blacklisting
It's also Android updates and Google Play Services, the latter being the thing that gets you access to the vast majority of Android apps, Maps, Music and all of that.
---------- Post added at 08:53 ---------- Previous post was at 08:48 ---------- More detail here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019...om-play-store/ Seems it refers to the next version of Android so presumably security fixes might still be available and also the Play store will remain for phone that have already been sold. |

Re: Google blocks Huawei access to Android updates after blacklisting
There will be security updates and everything will work fine on current handsets.
So maybe by the time other phones get released things could be sorted, or Huawei will have released their own OS. I love my P20 Pro, battery life is the best I've ever had. |
Re: Google blocks Huawei access to Android updates after blacklisting
Huawei's own OS is unlikely to gain traction outside of China as it wouldn't have access to Google's applications or the Play Store.

Re: Google blocks Huawei access to Android updates after blacklisting
Nothing stopping anyone flashing updates or forcing them. Can force them directly via firmware finder. This will likely stop eventually though because Huawei would stop developing EMUI Android. Leaving just the first option of flashing ROMs which aren't official but can generally be well made. See CyanogenMod.
Is a shame really I was rather enjoying the rise of other manufacturers coming up the ranks. Completely understand the ban though. Allowing Huawei phones to run wild in the US would put everyone at the NSA out of work. |
