No skirts at school

"A head teacher has banned skirts from his school, citing "frequent" complaints that they are "far too revealing".

In an email to parents at St Martin's School in Caerphilly, Lee Jarvis said from September both pupils and staff must wear tailored trousers or shorts.

....members of the public have frequently contacted the school to complain about what they regard as highly inappropriate and far too revealing attire for the workplace."

Workplace?

And if it's the girls' legs, won't shorts be just as "revealing" ?

To be fair, I live near a high school and some of the girls barely have their arses covered.

I'm sure they leave home with them a respectable length but then hitch them up.

Another idiot.

He might have had a point if the girls were complaining about having to wear skirts, but clearly they were not.

Our local comp allows either, but almost all [the girls] choose to wear skirts.

If they're not allowed skirts I can see skimpy hot pants being worn.

A similar incident happened at a secondary school in Dundee, the lad involved was wearing shorts, he was called to the headmaster's room and told this was not the school policy on uniforms, as the policy was for trousers or skirts, so he borrowed his sister's skirt and wore that, this was a get it right up you to the headmaster..:D:D

The skirt also being male wear cannot be denied by any Scotsman. The lad had it right! ;)

How times change, when we were at school girls were not allowed to wear trousers. Likewise lipstick, makeup, nail varnish, hair dye.

Re: No skirts at school

Isn't it only a few years* ago there was an uproar because a school stopped girls from wearing trousers?

* when I say a few years, it could be anywhere between 2 and 10, it all becomes a blur when you reach late 30's . . . ish :D :D

I've seen girls from Cleethorpes, easy mistake to make thinking it was an all boys school ;) :D

Aye, we had things then we don’t have now…

3 day weeks, power cuts, rubbish piling up in the streets, wild-cat strikes, Bloody Sunday, 4 times the rate of fatal workplace accidents, 3 times the rate of infant mortality, twice as many road fatalities, twice as many male lung cancer deaths, Morris Marinas, the Bay City Rollers…

Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be… ;)

Was always irritated that in hot summers (and in South Africa it could be pretty hot) the girls had summer uniforms but as boys had to keep shirt, tie, blazer, long trousers. Same seems to apply to workplaces where women can dress to suit weather but gents are often stuck in suits. (Much of this has gone with less formal dress in many workplaces, especially roles not public facing.)

Oh I don't know . .

Available housing, available jobs, cars you could fix yourself, washing machines that got clothes clean in less than 3 hours, knife fights were extremely rare, hard drug abuse was confined to the rich, the police did a better job, most kids got a decent education, brilliant rock music, environmental activists stayed up in their trees, no muslim nutjobs, TV was mainly interesting with no celebrity crap, you didn't need a 3 week appointment to see a doctor or dentist, the EU weren't yet arses, the phone (if you had one) wasn't constantly ringing with scam callers, a blackboard was a blackboard, and OMO was a washing powder.

:D

"knife fights were extremely rare"-ly reported

"cars you could fix yourself" - you had to, because they kept breaking down

"hard drug abuse was confined to the rich" because alcoholism was prevalent instead…

These days they torch your car before it breaks down, carry guns, grow cannabis in the loft, and sit on their sofa's in the street getting drunk, thats Leeds in a nutshell, as for school no one turns up so uniform is not an issue.

it's an old giptonians paradise.

Lived there for 6 months in the early 70s and 6 months in the early 80s - my brother* has lived there for around 50 years (now lives in Barton-on-Humber)

*He played for S United for a couple of years.

The Mighty Iron. A tricky opponent on their day, and useless on others. A bit like the Pakistan cricket team ( who also ban skirts before anyone accuses me of going off topic ;) )

The cricket team had to ban skirts?

Driving back from a shopping trip, my daughter remarked that she "can see those girls' knickers". All appearing out of a local High School. Then she gasped and told me to keep my eyes on the road as a sixth-former stepped out of the gates wearing a crop top and shorts that would have made Daisy Duke blush.

Itshim knows the one. It used to be a posh school, now dragged down by "outsiders". :dunce::dunce::dunce:

It's known for being where Gareth Bale and Sam Warburton attended.

Do you mean it used to be a well run school, but is now an Academy begging parents for donations to buy more laptops?
