Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose…

Tbf Last of the Summer Wine would be in my Room 101 , racist and 30 series too long !

Steptoe and Son has never been bettered though.

(BTW Shelley ,On the buses , Never the Twain were ITV, check your lists before cutting and pasting ;))

But surely programs are only renewed if they are popular so what's wrong with that?

Being popular doesn't necessarily mean they are any good. There are excellent dramas with low viewing figures that commercial broadcasters wouldn't touch.

Too much of the same old being renewed. If it makes money, just churn more of it out
compiled, not cut and pasted... ;)

Blake appeared in all four seasons - every episode of the first two, and the finales of seasons 3* & 4.

* Yes, I know it was actually a facsimile designed to fool Avon and not actually Roj Blake, but still …

Yes but if you were in charge of a tv station would you cancel a program that was extremely popular? How is Last Of The Summer Wine racist?

Trust me, if you live in Yorkshire it's racist ;)

You might cancel a programme if you wanted money to do something new/better. Look at the absurd number of series US TV shows do. So far in the UK we tended to quality over quantity e.g. Fawlty Towers just 12 episodes of perfection. In the US they'd still be running it and it would be in its 82nd series, with its 27th hotel owner.

Faulty Towers ended because the writers and main stars decided not to do anymore, not because the BBC didn't want to do anymore.
I don't believe a program is racist simply because they don't have many black people in it. If that were the case then you could say that about just about every program pre 1980's!

I think this is going a little off topic, please stick to Renewals & Cancellations, there are other topics for tv discussions (or make one).
