According to screenrant & IMDB

Quote:

The series will feature 10 hour length episodes, which seems to be the standard format for live-action series on the service, including the Rogue One spin-off series focusing on Rebel Alliance operative Cassian Andor. All future Star Wars films and live-action series will premiere only on Disney+.

As Disney+ won't be here in November I'll watch it via "other means".

looks absolutely superb and more movie quality and tv series. This is going to be worth a small fortune for Disney. I love it when people do a proper job

38.48 which is about the length of linear programs. I take your point though streaming should allow a full hour IMHO.

Re: The Mandalorian

That is what i thought. Knowing how huge Star Wars is globally this has got to go down as the biggest corporate financial mishap ever. I can understand wanting to do a phased rollout of a completely new service but if you know there is going to at least a one year gap in global availability dont put something out there which you know people are dying for. I cant wait to see the piracy stats.

Having said that, Disney arent stupid and maybe they have planned to take a ratings and revenue hit on this and consider it to be free advertising for the service going forward. If everyone sees how phenomenal this one series is they wont think twice about signing up when the service eventually becomes available in their area.

It gets worse. Episode 2 is only 30 mins.

General Maximus 15-11-2019 19:34

Re: The Mandalorian

that is ridiculous. Funnily enough I was having a conversation with a friend about this last night saying 8 episodes isn't enough and there is so much story to tell that it should have been planned for 16 eps and if they didn't want to "pad" the season and thought 16 eps was too much then at the very least they should have gone with the GoT model of 10 one hour episodes. At the rate this is going as it isn't even full episode length 8 x 30 minute episodes is 4 hours and they had might as well just called it a mini series rather than an actual proper full series.

admars 15-11-2019 22:29

Re: The Mandalorian

I think 30 mins is probably a v deliberate decision

1 - keeps the costs down

2 - keeps it like The Clone Wars Cartoon - i.e. it just gets on with it - 30 mins where stuff actually happens ;) Sure it could be 45 mins - add in 1.5 mins of beginning credits, make the montages a bit longer, add more as he travels "alone", and have more sitting around talking crap ;) He's not one for conversation, so there would just be 5 mins here and there of awkward silence.

1 - producing 2 30 min episodes will cost more than a 1 hour episode.*

2 - episodes 1&2 could easily have been a 1 hr episode.

* Are you really happy with an entire series that lasts for a mere 4 hours? Sounds more like a mini series or webisodic series.

Pierre 19-11-2019 23:32

Re: The Mandalorian

I hear it is very good. But I just can’t bring myself to subscribe further to other channels I already pay enough.

I’ve managed to watch 2 series of Star Trek - Discovery, so I would expect I can seek out alternative ways of viewing it.

admars 19-11-2019 23:45

Re: The Mandalorian

I had assumed it would be a weekly 1 hour episode, but I've enjoyed these short ones. Maybe their market research shows that's what more ppl want, people are too busy? Netflix are doing those trials to watching things at slighly faster speeds to watch more tv in a shorter space of time!

it depends what you mean -

stretching either episode 1 or 2 into 1 hr could have been bad, i.e. padding between the good bit. - that's what i meant would cost more to make

but yes, if you mean ep1 and ep2 could have been one one hour and a bit episode, then yes that would work.

I'm just thinking maybe they wanted to avoid shows like Lost, Walking dead, where you're shouting at the screen "get on with it, do something, this talking is boring now" ;)

or, perhaps they were thinking of the popularity of binge watching, so more short episodes is irrelevant

Maybe season 2 will be more traditional US style 22 episodes 45mins season now they know ppl like it, i.e. this who season is just a teaser?

Re: The Mandalorian

I don't know what to make of it tbh, I want to say it was good/okay and I would give it a 6.5/10. It wasn't bad but it could have been soooooooooooo much better. We should have had the story and flashbacks of the Mandalorian from episode 8 in episode 1 and then they could have built on it each episode throughout the season and we could have seen him growing up and going through his training. We wouldn't have had the cacky <30 minute episodes and by the end of the season we would have known who he was and still had the Yoda story line to continue in season 2. As it stands at the moment we have had a full season and know nothing about nothing. To me it is like the A-team, Airwolf or old BSG where the same thing happens every week just in a different setting. I expected more given the calibre of the writers/directors/producers involved.

Stephen 03-01-2020 22:09

Re: The Mandalorian

I absolutely loved every minute of it and the setting, look and feel of it. I don't feel like I have to know much about the character. It was the same with Bona Fett, he was a great character even though we didn't know much about him, he was bad ass and that was enough.

Re: The Mandalorian

I got bogged down with lost in space s1. I’m trying again at my father in law’s recommendation as he said the second half of season 1 is better, but up to the halfway point I thought it was too slow. Too few ideas spun out far too much - some of the episodes are over an hour long (this is a bugbear of mine with some material that’s been commissioned for streaming. The lack of requirement to fit a broadcast slot all too often leads to undisciplined editing). I’m on s1e8 next.

Mandalorian docuseries to air at the end of Clone Wars in May. I am looking forward to it because I don't think people appreciate how much goes into a series these days. I caught a video on youtube in January in which they showed you some new technology they had developed to assist in the filming and it blew me away. I shouldn't have to watch it to know what it isn't the real trailer. I was in bed having an afternoon snooze, looked at my phone, got the email with the link in, click on the post, saw "Mandalorian official season 2 trailer" and jumped out of bed to watch it properly on my pc. "Official" doesn't mean anything if it cannot be used in the correct context and enforced. I thought it was too early for a trailer but it was posted by IGN so I thought it was legit before I watched it even though nothing had come down from Lucasfilm or Disney. I don't understand why the video is still up and hasn't been taken down. Enough people must have reported it by now.

The coronavirus pandemic shut down film and TV productions around the world, but The Mandalorian remains on track to debut season two in October on Disney+.

"We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lock down," executive producer Jon Favreau said during a virtual panel for the Atx Television Festival moderated by Vanity Fair's Anthony Breznican. "Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and Ilm are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and postproduction remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us."

Re: The Mandalorian

Looks and sounds fantastic. I loved that baby Yoda was in season 1 so that the series has a true Star Wars grounding and if they are going to introduce the Jedi and the Force it is going to be even better. I don't need to see anything right now but just people talking about it and introducing stories and myths from the past which massively contribute to the realism factor.
