Recommend a printer

Can anyone recommend me a printer for light home printing of address labels. Cheapish but doesn't have to be very cheap.

What I really want is one that doesn't have obnoxious software (LOOK AT ME BUY THIS CARTRIDGE) stuff

I'd probably buy the one with the cheapest branded refills as the three i've used (Konica-minolta and Samsung laser and Epson ink cartridge) are all very possesive about their own branded cartridges.
To get my Samsung colour laser to work with generic cartridges I had to cover the gold contacts with clear sellotape ! I got this tip from google and it's highly counter intuitive, i've no idea how or why it works but it does.

Personally I would buy a laser printer, as the cost per sheet is cheaper than ink.

Then buy the relevant size labels, I was lauck as I was given a large pack of Avery address labels.

The advantage of a laser printer is you can use it for other things.

OKI printers are pretty good and you can get cheap toner.

I paid around £250 for a C531DN (double side, network - not wifi) a few years back, DoItWiser toner is about £50 for 5000 page units though don't get anywhere near that). I chose it because there are Linux drivers.

Go to sites like Printer Land. Their prices match or beat Amazona and they have huge choice and good advice.

Depending on how light "light" printing is, you might want to look at HP printers. HP have this thing called "Instant Ink" where rather than buying ink cartridges, you just subscribe to them and they send you ink when you need it.

The reason this might be of interest is that there's a "free" plan, letting you print 15 pages a month at no cost, but they'll still continue to send you ink. If you print more than 15 pages, you pay £1 per 10 sheets. I've had one of these for about a year and a half now, I print a few pages a month quite regularly and rarely go over the 15 pages. I think I've paid £4 total, but I haven't paid for any ink yet went through about 4 cartridge refills by now. Works a treat for me.

Check if you can get cheap replacement cartridges for it first, some of them inks can end up costing more than the printer.

I just got these for my Brother DCP-J411. £7.99 for 4 black and 2 sets of colours.
