Zoom Channels on Virgin Media

When old shows from 1980s and 1990s are on the following I miss half the screen.

As far as I know it only happen on the following channels.

ITV3
ITV4

I can't see the on screen dog and with the info to tell you what coming on next all I see is "Up next".

Do Virgin Media know about it?
What will Virgin Media fix it?

I’m sure you can fix this in aspect settings on the V6 box menus

Even the older boxes had an aspect setting.

Set the Video Output->Aspect Correction Mode setting on the TiVo to 'Panel'. You may also have to adjust the video format setting on your TV to "Widescreen" or "16:9". (I assume you have a widescreen TV?)

Done that months ago - still no luck.

Just looked at my TV settings. It has Normal, full, Zoom, and Wide Zoom. It I select Zoom or Wide Zoom, I get the same symptoms even in the "My Shows" menu.

Do you get black bars down the side of the picture like this?

If not, your TV is removing them. You need to change the TV settings to stop it doing it. You might also be able to prevent the TV from doing it by setting the TiVo's Letterbox Colour setting to grey.

Post the TV model number if you can't work out how to do it.

ITV crop shows made in 4:3 to fit 16:9. Just look how bad the Minder episodes showing in On Demand look.

Media Boy said he wasn't seeing the channel logo and other digital on-screen graphics, so it must be the TV not the broadcaster in this case.

Programmes in that era were made with wide safe areas because of overscan, so zooming them to fill a 16:9 frame isn't such a bad idea. Probably gets fewer complaints than having sidebars.
