Pesky Fruit Fly invasion
I live near a building that's been derelict for around 10 years and recently since they have started work to restore the listed building the entire block of flats has been invaded by fruit flies.
What's the best way to get rid of them, u cant even make a meal without getting flies all over its ridiculous. A representative spoke to the council in regards to this and were told when the shrubbery is all taken care of outside the building the flies should subside but they gave no date to when this will be. |
Re: Pesky Fruit Fly invasion
They only persist where there is a food supply (e.g. rotting fruits).
Are you sure they are fruit flies and not some other types feeding on cadavers? |
Re: Pesky Fruit Fly invasion
Fruit flies tend to have brown bodies. If they're black and small they could be fungus gnats. These thrive on plant pot compost.
Something of a plague here as well but the UV killing lamp in the kitchen helps out. The occasional satisfying crack as another bites the dust. |
Re: Pesky Fruit Fly invasion
Fungus Gnats (Sciarid Flies) fall foul of the yellow sticky traps I put in the greenhouse.
