Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been sentenced to another year in prision

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been sentenced to another year in prison.

Enough is enough, send in the SAS to extract her, Iran is taking the pee.

Get her out and then kick out all Iranian diplomats.

Getting special forces in somewhere covertly is a lot easier than getting them out again after they've made a mess and everyone's looking for them. Especially if they're trying to smuggle a high-profile prisoner out of the country. Also, once NZR resurfaces in the UK, we then have to explain how she got here. That would be an awkward press conference, given that we don't like talking about what the SAS gets up to and we wouldn't want to admit to putting boots on the ground in someone else's sovereign territory.

What's happened to her is disgraceful but it is also typical of Iran's behaviour and sadly I think she was a bit naive to think that she, as an Iranian citizen known to be working for an organisation connected to the BBC, would not attract the attention of her home country's paranoid security apparatus. She was born and grew up in Iran, remains an Iranian citizen and was traveling in and out of the country on her Iranian passport. Despite her having a British husband, a British passport and a British child there's not an awful lot we can do to help her, and military action on her behalf would excessive and unlikely to win international support.

Something need to be done, as we know damn well that when this sentence ends another trumped-up charge will be brought.

It seems to me that the very best that could be achieved would be to spirit her out of the country after this latest sentence is complete. There is however still the question of her parents, who are still alive and living in their native Iran. She would never see them again, and she might have reason to fear the regime would persecute them, possibly even trumping up charges of collusion in her escape. Diplomatic channels are all we have, and Iran just isn't listening.

They want their money that they feel they are owed and there's no way any government can ever give into paying ransom money or they will find themselves continually having their citizens held for ransom all over the globe.

And the evidence for that is....................? It would seem to be just conjecture.

Neither Iran nor the UK government formally acknowledge that the release of UK dual nationals in Iranian jails is linked to the non-payment of the debt, although the issue has been raised by Iranian judges and is privately seen as the chief roadblock.
So as I said, pure conjecture.
Quote:

An international arbitration in 2008 ruled the UK owed the debt, but in subsequent protracted court battles, lawyers acting for International Military Services, the Ministry of Defence’s now-defunct arms sales agency, have questioned not only the debt’s size, but at times whether any debt was payable.
Ransom or debt due?

Why do we have to be so nice all the time, can't we fight dirty too?

Just imprison some high value Iranian on trumped up charges, then do a prisoner exchange.

We don't do that, because it would normalise kidnap and ransom as foreign policy. There are plenty of regimes around the world who would use such a policy with enthusiasm if they thought it was effective.

I can safely say I have never heard of this person before today.

So, regardless of her status, do we owe Iran money or not ?

Really? Her case has been all over the news regularly for the last 5 years. Her husband has tirelessly been pushing the case in the news at intervals. I am amazed you missed it.
