Apple has finally revealed the price for its Apple TV Plus service - and it’s significantly cheaper than its rival, Netflix .
Speaking at an event in Cupertino, California today, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, revealed that Apple TV Plus will cost just $4.99/month (UK price remains unclear).
And if users buy a new Apple device, including iPhones or iPads, they’ll get a year of the TV service for free.
This is significantly cheaper than Netflix, which currently costs users £8.99/month in the UK.

It might do but Apple is only the sixth largest. ;)

I thought Walmart was.

I think Apple's price will remain competitive because they are launching at the same time as Disney+ and with all the streaming services available people are going to be making some hard choices.

Well its not likely to be that cheap in the UK anyway, that would be about £4.05 per month.

They are going to be cheaper than Netflix for a quite a while simply to try and grab customers.

I don't think I can edit the thread title, but the Eurozone and UK prices have been confirmed as €4.99 and £4.99.

Apple+ might be 'significantly cheaper' than Netflix, but when you view the amount of content available on it, you will see why. You get what you pay for.

Not necessarily. While I am not knocking Netflix (in fact I love Mindhunter, and a lot of their documentaries are excellent), they do make a lot of crap. It can also be quite difficult to find good stuff, thanks partly to the amount of crap they make.

People will happily pay for quality rather than quantity. I'm already seriously considering getting Apple + purely because I like the look of their upcoming show about the space race, and they've got some good people making shows for them.

Whilst I like Netflix, I wish the base package was atleast HD.

If Apples package is HD or 4K from the base package that would be good.

I am pretty picky about what I choose, but I have a huge list of Netflix stuff that looks well worth watching. That there is 'rubbish' as well is undeniable, but they have to cater for different tastes.

Apple +, by contrast, have a few good things on there that you could count with one hand, viz

The Morning Show
For All Mankind
See
The Elephant Queen
Oprah's Book Club (although I doubt I will be watching this)

What else is there?

Well so far I've watched See & For All Mankind.

See was ... dredful. I ended up skipping much of Ep 1 and gave up a quarter of the way into Ep 2.

However, For all Mankind is looking good, only seen Episode 1 so far but enjoyed it, will be watching 2 & 3 tonight.
