Did you guys have to manually reboot and what firmware revision are you on?

---------- Post added at 10:26 ---------- Previous post was at 10:22 ----------

According to the VM page it should be 20mbit!!!! They sure kept this quiet, not rebooted yet but i did a few days ago and it didn't change.

Possibly as my download speed sometimes drops to 60mbit on a speed test, but i do have more devices and people in the house than normal so that maybe the reason, it hasn't gone off or anything though.

I also wonder if they will drop the M50 package and have the minimum as M100 as 5 different packages is to many.

I dunno, I've got 4x64 QAM upstream channels:

https://www.cableforum.uk/images/local/2019/06/4.png

I'm guessing it's still being rolled out. My node didn't even get 350Mbit until a few months ago, so it seems like it's the bottom of the list for upgrades regardless.

Same here but usually VMs 'free upgrades' are quickly followed by an inflation busting price rise !

And you fully know that prices go up each year regardless of any speed upgrades, this is the same for every provider.

I rebooted the VM HUB 3 yesterday evening and upload is now 20Mb. Im in the NW9 area. My area hasn't been upgraded to 350Mb or 500Mb though. 200Mb is the max speed available. But i'm very happy the upload speed has been increased.

SnoopZ 01-07-2019 12:04

Re: 200mb upload speed

It is expected over the next few months 50Mbps will be bumped to 5Mbps upload and 100Mbps to 10Mbps upload.

---------- Post added at 12:04 ---------- Previous post was at 12:03 ----------

And just to keep Mr K happy, VM have just announced their annual prices rises so he can blame the upload increase for the rise even though prices would still increase regardless of any boost. ;)

Hi Snoopz, sorry for not getting back to you. The graph did go back to normal. The IP address was correct and still is.

For some reason the thinkbroadband monitor cant ping my connection now. I logged into the HUB3 to see if any of the settings had been changed but for the life of me couldn't find the option to respond to external pings. I'll have to have a look again this evening.

I have the white HUB3 that virgin were sending out as part of their trials program many years ago. I'm not sure if the device has started to develop issues.

The only thing i have enabled in the Hub3 Firewall settings is Firewall protection if that helps.

I don't think there is an option for external pings on the Hub3 and i also have the white trials hub.

Same as mine, i only have firewall enabled and I've disabled the wireless radios in the HUB3 as i use the BT Whole Home Mesh Network for my Wi-Fi needs.

I haven't changed any settings on the HUB3 in 2 years so im confused as to why it would just stop working.

I'll reboot the hub3 tonight to see if makes a difference.

If that doesn't work make sure you have your router firewall allows Response to ICMP (Ping)

Very strange, i wonder if you have any other equipment on your network causing it, is there anything you can temporarily disconnect so just leaving the Hub3?

The only thing i have connected to the Hub3 itself is a TP-Link 24 port unmanaged gigabit switch.

I only use the Hub3 as a router really. Wifi Radios, 2.4 and 5Ghz have been disable from the settings page.

The only thing i can put it down to is, under firewall settings on the Hub3 i've had ip flood detection enabled, which i enabled ages ago. But i'll switch it off to see if that makes a difference

I think it maybe random and not sure whos issue it is, mines been all RED for 7hrs now but when crazyronnie was having issues mine was working fine but i think it went down at the same time his did this time.

Mine last went all RED from 21st-22nd of June at exactly the same time as this time give or take a few mins and for 12hrs, strangely.

Only thing that makes any sense if you didnt change anything your end is someone blocked ICMP at a router / switch serving certain areas for some reason

Also it is possible the Hub3 is randomly deciding it needs to block the pings for some reason, maybe its something in the VM firmware, that is what i keep getting when i google this issue as others also see it from time to time.

As far as I know, you still have to disable the hub firewall, otherwise the TBB Quality Monitor shows random blocks of red. This issue has not been
resolved in the firmware I have.

Hope this helps.

I suspect it must be related to the .610 firmware as i have never had the issue before on other firmware, and i currently have only ever had 2 blocks of red in the last few months.

VM are so ridiculously slow fixing firmware issues they still haven't fixed the upstream decimal point being in the wrong place!

I had the same issue on my Hub3 until I one day happened across the non-VM branded GUI - Which sported a few more options...

I remember quite clearly that changing the previously hidden value fixed it (so that must be 'Port Detection')?

Can't check now, as I'm in modem mode...

Port Scan Detection is in the VM firmware, the IPv6 stuff isn't though.

AFAIK the IPv6 stuff is working in the Hub 3 in Ireland, so I guess the firmware code is shared over all Liberty Global Hubs to an extent ?

Yes, I work from home a lot, so I need a backup.

I actually use Vodafone now, not Sky, I should update that.

I think Nottingham is in the list (of 27 areas) for the next round of Gigafast rollouts, although no mention of timescales.

Yeah, it probably wont reach me though, I'm about 10 miles from the city centre.

Do VM Plan to upgrade the 100mb upload still or is that going to just be left as it is?

I believe 50mb and 100mb will both get an upload boost at some point.

They always do upload speed uplifts from fastest to slowest (Which is, conversely, least amount of users to most).

No 500 uplift then?

500Mb is a new tier so that in itself is the uplift for now.

While that might be true, its unfair to have the same upload as a lower tier.

Some people are never happy always wanting more....

In the grand scheme of things it's not as much about wanting more but expecting more when you're on the top package. You don't expect to get the same upload as a lower tier and you would expect the same ratio of download to upload the lower tiers seem to be getting.

M350 is the current top tier that's widely available.

M500 is really a bundle specific download increase for Ultimate Oomph at the moment.

Yeah i thought that was a bit strange as well. They make a good start realigning all the tiers to 10:1 and then release a new tier with old school ratios. I know there is only only going to be a fraction of customers on 500mbit but maybe they did some tests and determined 50mbits up isn't viable atm and they need to wait for docsis 3.1.

Incidentally, i have had a letter through saying my bill is going up by £5 so that has paid for my upstream upgrade.

Whether it's a bundle is irrelevant in my opinion. It's an internet speed that's available. If we're moving to a 10:1 ratio then it would be nice not to be left out.

Honestly, it's probably most likely a classic result of The left arm of Virgin not knowing what the right arm is doing. I expect it will get uplifted eventually.

Possible upload increase to 10mbit according to a post in the firmware thread.
