The Greatest Showman - on Sky1 Christmas Day

As a Christmas Gift for those without the movie subscription - Sky1 is showing 'The Greatest Showman' on Sky1 at 6.45pm on Christmas Day.

You also have football on Sky one on Boxing Day for free
enjoy festive fixtures on Boxing Day, as three Premier League matches fill your screen while you get your fill of Christmas leftovers. Usually exclusive to Sky Sports, all three matches will be on Sky One from 12pm:
Fulham v Wolves, 12pm

Brighton v Arsenal, 5pm

Watford v Chelsea, 7.15pm

With adverts every 15 minutes?

That would really spoil the viewing that is for sure.

Sky 1 schedule says 18:45-20:45 and IMDB says the run time is 1 hour 45 mins.

I would guess no adverts, 15 mins extra isn't long enough for ads. Also, for those that regularly record off Sky Cinema you will know that the film finishes with ages to go on the recording so likely this will be the same

It would certainly be sensible of them to play it that way. As well as showcasing Sky Cinema to potential new customers, they’re up against BBC One which always walks away with the evening viewing ratings on Christmas Day. It has to be worth the commercial hit to get their own brand in front of more people at the one time of year everyone’s sat in front of the TV.

I think there will be no shortage of ads through this film, which should net Sky a nice bit of extra money.

Best to record it and skip through the ads, folks!

If the film’s duration is 1h 45m and it has a 2 hour allocation in the schedule, where are the ‘plenty’ of ads going to go? Sky One typically runs 15 minutes of ads per hour, here they’ve left themselves precisely half that time. How have you come to your conclusion?

Well, Sky normally do their best to extract as much advantage from advertising on the back of popular programmes as possible. This one will be massively popular and so it would be amazing if Sky did not milk this for all it's worth.

As for the duration of the film, commercial TV has form when it comes to chopping bits out of films to allow for advertising.

Maybe this will be an exception. On the other hand...

I honestly think the film will run unintupted.

If anything they will run a longer ad break before and after the movie.

Let's hope you are right. We will soon find out! I'd still record it if I were you. You heard it here first!

55% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a musical to boot.... Probably a miss for me like everything else on Sky !
