I think its a German production filmed in Thailand, with German/English/Thai actors.
It has its moments, the acting is crap but the fight scenes are well played out, choreographed and shot.
With that said the fight scenes made the film, a little bit of T&A, a little bit gritty. Its one of those "oh i've got sod all to do for an hour or 2" moments, stick it on and flick through to the best bits.

RoboCop 8/10 still a classic although in no way perfect.

RoboCop 2014 7/10 a lot better than expected just don't see it and try to compare it to the original.

A few cool nods to the original had me laugh out loud. The theme tune is still there!

RoboCop (2014)

Just back from seeing this.

It was... surprisingly not awful :D

I still prefer the original, but I did actually really enjoy this version. It doesn't have the ultra-violence or the humour, and the only attempt at satire is SLJ's TV host, but it's actually quite well done and has a different take compared to the original.

I missed it having a villain like Kurtwood Smith's Clarence (the equivalent guy in this was pretty crap), but Keaton and Oldman were very good as the OmniCorp boss and Robo's inventor respectively. Also nice to see The Wire & Boardwalk Empire's Michael K. Williams.

Oh, and Oldman's assistant was hot (Vegas and Dexter's Aimee Garcia).

Maybe... 7/10, perhaps 8. [The original is one of my "tens".]

Wednesday -

X-Men: Days of Future Past (cinema, 3D)

8/10

Not as good as X-Men 2 or X-Men: First Class, but still very good. 3D was pointless, though.

This weekend -

The Matrix (BD)

10/10.

15 years old and still awesome.

Pacific Rim (3D BD)

This was the first time I've seen Pacific Rim in 3D and it was awesome - it joins the small list of 3D films that I think have both good *and* worthwhile use of 3D (e.g. Avatar, Gravity, Prometheus, DREDD...).

This was also the 2nd test of my new AVR (the first was The Matrix yesterday, with uncompressed 5.1 LPCM from the X1), and the DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack was brilliant.

Anyway. The film may be a cliched cheesefest, but for pure fun and awesomeness it's a 9/10.

Casino Royale (BD)

Daniel Craig's first Bond isn't his best (nor his worst), but it's still a bloody good film, and a welcome reboot for the franchise after the ABSOLUTELY AWFUL Die Another Day.

Yup, DOFP and First Class before it are definitely more like reboots of the franchise than standard prequels or sequels.

First Class had already introduced a variety of inconsistencies with the original trilogy, and DOFP has introduced even more (even before the time travel...).

Awesome!

Longer than the first film, and without the fast pace.

But that's OK - it's not meant to be the same kind of film as the first.

This one is more like an Indonesian version of The Departed... but with added spectacular fight scenes.

It may not have the non-stop action of The Raid, but it's still very good and the fight scenes are just... amazing.

I thought the opposite. By not showing too much of him throughout the film it builds suspense and makes the film better. I think people forget this and are spoiled by modern moves being all action. If you had seen the directors first movie called monsters you'd know what to expect.

It's Godzilla, surely you weren't expecting an amazing in depth story. I think they tried to make the plot more involved by including the family stuff to try and make you feel more emotion.

^ I have to agree although it's only 2/10 from me.
IMO this is the worst Godzilla movie of all. Even the early Godjira series were more entertaining.

I thought Monsters was no-budget trash and not worthy of marking.

Stephen 25-08-2014 17:33

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Monsters was low budget but the director showed what you could achieve with very little money. It also proved that creating an atmosphere and suspense can be better than just destroying everything and just making it about the monster. It makes you think a bit more and that for me is a trick that most film makers have forgotten these days.

So you are saying the awful 90s Hollywood Godzilla was better than this?

But thats just my opinion.
