I would describe it as "ok".
I dont think it was as good as the first series.
Some of the episodes were good, some were really "meh".
The final two episodes were good, and I would like to have seen how they dealt with the cliff hanger.

So Rosanne is back on...kind of.

But without her.

Though the spin off is the same show as...well, the previous spin off.

Only it now has a different name.

And will only carry on, less her starring in it.

https://news.sky.com/story/roseanne-...eanne-11412846

What a mess.

If anyone can do a better job of explaining what now is to go forward (as per their expectations), be my guest.

So we all knew that it was going to happen but Versailles has officially ended. It was a show that I took interest in and was carried into an adult / raunchy 18+ history lesson but alas, it is no more. :(

FYI...just so viewers are aware, the series does contain unsettling scenes that involve violence and nudity / sexual content.

not good, I thought they would milk it for as long as they could and it would at least run to season 15. I am going to miss those guys, 12 years is a long time and I can't believe I have been watching it for so long, I can remember watching season 1 like it was yesterday. It is a cracking series though and I am glad they earned mega $$$ at such a young age to keep them going for the rest of their lives if nothing else comes along.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Okay so I really can't tell if this is in the spirit of this thread, but a series called Naked attraction (it is a show but kind of like a game show / dating thing) has been confirmed for a third series.

It, though (like with Versailles) is controversial and extremely polarizing...in fact, not many love it and the hatred round it is enormous so until the show airs it was always a "will it be cancelled today" kind of shows. The third series was announced earlier in the year but it is set to make it to air, and the first episode of the third series will go on air tomorrow.

No idea what the ratings are but it is aired on channel 4 in the dead of night / demand so I suppose the figured can be sought.

A bit of background...the show is a contestant based game show where one person gets to chose a date of 6 naked people that suit his or her likes. When he or she narrows it down to the final pair, he or she strips nude, too. There (apparently) is no rejection available for the winner - they then go on a date and 99 times out of 100 it leads to nothing more than casual sex afterwards, no more. (You don't get to watch that part, though).

On a personal note, I did get convinced to start watching this show by...urgh I saw a bit of a few episodes, found it repellent and it turned me off everything in life. Finally managed to delete all that I had of it, thanks to some help from Luther and he will answer any other questions that you have on the matter.

Given that the show is 18+ I am sorry if my post has fallen foul of the rules. It is not pornographic according to Ofcom and Ofcom chose not to investigate as they said there was nothing that breached their rules and that the show was purely a dating show and does not contain sexual activity and was also shown after the watershed.

I have also watched it from the start.

I suspect the mega $$$ are part of the issue, with them wanting so much that its losing its financial viability to produce.

CBS and Warner Bros TV wanted to have at least two more series, because they make so much money from the programme (advertising revenue during the first run and residuals on re-runs).

https://ew.com/tv/2018/08/22/the-big...eady-to-leave/

They've stopped after this season because Jim Parsons wanted to leave.

ig Bang repeats on TBS often lure more viewers than anything else on cable (and sometimes broadcast), a feat other recent hit comedies (including Emmy winner Modern Family) have failed to match. "The pot is as big or bigger than it was for Friends, and that's due to syndication rights and the amount of money you get per 30-second commercial," says Bob Williams, CEO at Burns Entertainment, which matches celebrities with brands. Adweek reported in October that first-run Big Bang episodes commanded $326,260 per 30-second spot for the 2013-14 season, second only to NBC's Sunday Night Football.

I don't blame him to be honest, he must be loaded by now at $1 million per episode so why not chill for the next 5 years and do everything you heart desires. Although as viewers we might think it is an easy job to do a 20 minute episode a week I imagine as actors they have long and gruelling filming schedules and Sheldon/Jim Parsons especially must have it extra hard with all the science lingo and stuff he needs to memorise. I have got a degree in Microbiology although I love my science the physics stuff means nothing to me and even I would struggle to come out with all the stuff he does and make it sound believable.

This is from a Quora discussion about how long an episode takes to film.

Quote:

Kunal Nayyar (Raj from Big Bang Theory) had once explained the schedule in a podcast.

On an average, it takes around a week to get an episode right and shoot for it. The stars get their scripts on Tuesday. Wednesday is a casual table read. Thursday they will rehearse the scene among themselves in front of the writers and director. On Friday, the executives from CBS and more will come to watch the rehearsal. During this time, the script will be constantly modified based on suggestions from everyone and a new script will be delivered every night.

On Monday, they have a rehearsal with the lights, camera and shoot the scenes which cannot be performed in front of an audience. Finally, on Tuesday, they have a final rehearsal and then the scene is filmed in front of a live audience.

pip08456 24-08-2018 19:23

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I wouldn't say a new script but certainly a modified one. I and others have talked to Joe Mallozzi on this and he sort of put it this way. Sort of as I'm not quoting verbatim.

A script is what the writer envisages as how the story unfolds but the table read takes in ideas from the cast which may lead to modifications. When we get to rehearsal there may be further input from the actors, writers, cast, crew and executives from the studio/media company airing it. There is then a metamorphosis to what is seen on screen by the viewer including it being cut and edited to fit the time slot while still keeping to the general story line. A script is like a living entity maturing at a fantastic rate until it is finally "in the can" and ready to air.

It appears that Designated Survivor may itself have survived.

According to "Production Weekly", a hollywood based journal that lists shows and films currently in production (or due to start) a Season 3 of the show is set to begin filming in Toronto, under the working title of "The White House Project". Since ABC cancelled the show back in May, its unlikely they have secretly revived it, the most likely candidate seems to be Netflix.

That is just a tweet from a fan page. With a poll as to who you would play if there was a new series.

I sort of expected it to happen-ish given the new Disney streaming platform etc. I know we discussed this a while back but Netflix were adamant it was their IP and they were going to plough on with it. I suppose it is inevitable that Jessica Jones will follow suit but I don't understand why they are mucking about announcing them a few weeks at a time. Certainly isn't a surprise considering the following in the US and that is huge.

Amazing how for around 16 years it totally disappeared from our TV screens apart from the repeats.

Not seen the latest series, out of protest really at the decision to have a female doctor.

Yes, it really beggared belief that a woman could play a twin-hearted two thousand year old alien life form who could regenerate multiple times...

I believe once the novelty of a woman doctor wears off and the viewers dip to unacceptable levels the makers will have to think again. Let's just hope they don't decide the doctor should be a dog or an ape!

In the context of the show, yes it did pretty much begger belief.

It made no sense at all given the show history over the previous 50 years and was just just done as a gimmick to pander to the SJW/PC brigade. Of course, they had to "prepare" us - and write it into a few previous episodes to make it all "official".

Regardless of all this, since it was a done deal and fans had no say, I, like many decided to give it a chance anyway. I mean, how bad could it be ?

Was it a disaster - not really, it wasnt as bad as that, but nor was it that good either.

The "doctor" is just a blabbering useless character with a sonic - who could be removed from pretty much every episode without affecting them much. The sidekicks outshine her everytime. Some of the episodes were average, some were poor, or worse. None were worthy of comparison to some of the greats.

As someone mentioned to be the other week, if you were in trouble on an alien world, and could choose either this doctor, or Sarah Jane Smith to help you - who would you pick. I would go for SJS everytime. She would have made a far better "Doctor".

Similarly, if you could pick any of the doctors to help you, would you pick this one ? I would not.

I am perhaps more invested as regards Dr. Who as I was (luckily) allowed to see the first episode live, that's the way it was when I was a kid.

As I grew older I accepted he other Doctors but then was dropped in WHEN?

Any Dr. Who fans out there have to accept it is for the American market IMHO.

You are, of course, assuming the viewer levels will dip. They may do, and I am sure the BBC will have discussions of what to do if that happens. However, you may find that the fans put off by a female doctor are more than adequately replaced by new fans who feel they can identify with a female doctor more.

I don't actually care whether the doctor is male or female, as long as the stories are good (with well written characters) and they are acted well.

You may say that's as a result of the increasing political correctness of the show, but I don't think it is. I've watched Doctor Who since I was about 7 (which would be around the start of the Tom Baker era), and I never even thought about the gender of the doctor. With each regeneration, I've often known little about the actors, so had no real expecations, and tried to keep an open mind.

Besides, until the new series, the Doctor never really did anything that was particularly gender specific anyway. Yes, he did frequently fight bad guys, but women are capable of fighting as well. Even in the new series, the character hasn't done anything particularly gender specific, although had David Tennant's Doctor been female, that would have meant Rose was a lesbian.

Doctor Who is very British and I do not think it's been done for the Americans at all. Yes the budget got bigger and the effects look so good but that's just to make it more appealing to kids these days and more believable.

I still don't see the doctor as female.

Yes it's a female actor but it's still the same doctor at heart in a different body.

I think most BBC productions (Doctor Who included) are made with selling to other countries in mind, but that's how TV is made nowadays. That said, I think Doctor Who is quintessentially British and I actually think that is part of the reason it sells well. They could Americanise it, by making the doctor an incredibly sexy, sassy man or woman who kicks ass, but I think they would miss the point of the series. Bit like the US remake of Red Dwarf where (IIRC) they made everyone except Kryten (Who was still played by Robert Llewelyn) incredibly sexy, sassy and heroic instead of the bums and misfits the characters in the UK series are.

Don't forget they tried to Americanise Doctor Who in 1996 and look how that turned out lol.

Back to the topic.

No news on the other CW shows yet, but its almost certain that all of them will be renewed.

They will all be renewed. After the Elseworlds crossover this week they confirmed next year's as being Crisis on Infinite Earth for next year.

Excellent news about The Rookie - really enjoyable so far; funny and gritty - reminds me of the "Southland" cop series.

Elementary has been cancelled.

The show was unexpecedly given a 7th season, which has now been confirmed as its last.
The final season is due to be aired in late spring / early summer 2019, and comprises of 13 episodes.

Nor really surprised as the last series was rather disappointing.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been renewed for a 3rd & 4th season. Netflix must like the viewing figures from just one season aired.

That's good news.

I wonder if they will end up filming them back to back like they did with seasons 1 & 2.

I would think so as they've ordered 16 episodes to split into 2x8 episode seasons.
