ntl creates 'Best of British' broadband awards

Quote:

LONDON †“ Cable company NTL is introducing the Best of British Broadband awards to honour the creators of websites that help, entertain or support others.

The awards have 14 categories, including the Best Music Site and the Best Charity Site, and will be judged by a panel led by Capital FM DJ Neil Fox. The judges will draw up a shortlist of six websites for each category and the winners will be announced in October. Bill Goodland, the director of internet at NTL, said: "We hope everyone will use this opportunity to reward those unsung internet heroes in our communities who help others without personal reward." NTL has created a site to enable the public to vote for their favourite sites.

Right, the plan is that we get everyone to vote for this site :D

For a minute there I thought they had created their own award saying that NTL was the best broadband ;) Now we all know they would win that award in a fair fight :p:

If this is Bill 'Cap' Goodland's idea, we should mount a campaign for www.anticap.co.uk to win it. :D

Yup, ours is two next week and cbeebies is where it's at as far as he's concerned. He won't go to bed at night unless he's played the 'Barnaby and Becky go to Fairy Hill' game. He usually likes to play with his cbeebies cyber-pet as well, he has a puppy called Pie.

So, in our house it'll be one vote for cbeebies, one for mumsnet.com and one for Cable Forum.

Actually, I'd best not mention the awards to Mrs T, she'd mount a campaign for Mumsnet to win it and they have a very large number of active posters. :erm:

TBH - We do not need to vote fix to win a title, from the successes of the nthellworld sites and the moving on with cableforum and the support shown from the membership, we already know we are one of the helpful sites out there.

Re: ntl creates 'Best of British' broadband awards

Having "come back on the 2nd September" to vote for the best website, I find that that the site is inactive. Is this some kind of ironic joke on ntl's behalf?

Re: ntl creates 'Best of British' broadband awards

Will be interesting to see if it still says it tomorrow too. Somehow, I think it will still be there.

/me wonders how we'll be able to come back in time to vote. Anyone got a spare flux-capacitor they can lend me..?

Frank 02-09-2004 13:32

Re: ntl creates 'Best of British' broadband awards

Well in all fairness they didn't say what time on the 2nd, but you would think the beginning of the day, wouldn't you.

Perhaps they will open it later, or maybe they haven't finished it yet and will launch it tomorrow and hope nobody noticed. Nothing else to do by speculate as there's no update from ntl anywhere on any of their sites, but that's not really a new concept to ntl.

Maggy 02-09-2004 13:34

Re: ntl creates 'Best of British' broadband awards

Seems to me that NTL really are extracting the urine here.A best of BB award from them? They desperately need a new webmaster and designer for one thing because their site is a lurid disgusting mess. You can't find anything you want because it is such a mass of conflicting ads and links and anything vital is very well hidden away.Hardly useful unless you have summat to hide.

If there was an example of how not run and have a site they would win hands down.MY brain shuts in shock down everytime I visit purely due to that disgusting purple they are so fond of.

Sorry this was not very positive of me was it?I suppose trying to encourage better web design and websites is a good thing but reeaally they need to sort their own site out desperately as well.

The helping hand category appears to be the most suitable category, and its been done now, so no more nominations please. :D

So........We're meant to be able to see who's shortlisted now. What a complete waste of time this "awards" project was. They cant even get it sorted on time. Heck, its still letting people enter websites!, that was meant to stop on the 24th September...

I apologise if anybody has any problems with my site. I would like to assure you that I am doing my best to sort them out.
I fixed many errors so that now it shouldn't crash anyone's browser.
The website is being updated all the time and I have now replaced some of the rubbish with interesting facts and trivia on all aspects of Doctor Who.
