Just hope they follow the books a bit more. The films are way to sanitised.

The Two Stargate Movies appear to have been announced ;

http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com...1613&Itemid=75

"Stargate: The Ark of Truth"

As SG-1 searches for an Ancient artifact which they hope can defeat the armies of the Ori, they learn more Ori ships are about to be sent through the supergate to launch a final assault on Earth. Daniel discovers that the artifact, the Ark of Truth, may be in the Ori home galaxy, and SG-1 embarks aboard the Odyssey to find it, and pre-empt the attack. The IOA has a plan of their own and SG-1 ends up in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.

"Stargate: Continuum"

While SG-1 attends the execution of Ba'al, the last of the goa'uld system lords, Teal'c and Vala inexplicably disappear into thin air. Carter, Daniel and Mitchell race back to a world where history has been changed: the Stargate program has been erased from the timeline. As they try to convince the authorities what's happened, a fleet of goa'uld motherships arrives in orbit, led by Ba'al, his queen, Katesh, (Vala) and his first prime, Teal'c. SG-1 must find the Stargate and set things right before the world is enslaved by the goa'uld.

Good heavens ... what would be the point, the original is a masterpiece! What's the betting the remake relies so heavily on FX to emphasise the fact the park is all computer controlled that it completely forgets to inject any suspense.

There are few things scarier in sci fi cinema than the sound of Yul Brinner's spurs in the distance. :D

I watched the pilot of another new sci-fi series last night (from the states) called PainKiller Jane - it was slightly weird to start with, but a promising start. Sci-Fi have ordered 22 episodes.

I was just thinking the same!
There's no way a re-make could be as suspense filled as the original.

Thanks for the info Paul. The link says it next shows at Friday at 10pm. Is this a repeat of the pilot of the start of the series?

I also watched the first episode of another series called 'Drive' - about a secret race across America. The description sounded a bit dull but I gave it a chance and I'm glad I did, it was actually quite good and had me reaching for episode 2.

I've just watched some of a new web-based project, called Sanctuary, starring & produced by Amanda Tapping.

http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_12027.html

First impressions are favourable - the CGI is very obvious, but understandable, given the budget, but the acting & storyline are spot-on, imo, so far.

So far I've seen 4 episodes, each of which is about 15 minutes long.

One surprise was the very credible English accent from Amanda.

The second series of Eureka starts on Sky One on Tuesday 2nd October at 8pm

This was an excellent fantasy/sci-fi series that is entertaining and often quite funny.

For some odd reason, it's known as 'A Town Called Eureka' in the UK.

Another new series I'm also checking out - Moonlight

"Moonlight centers on a private investigator, Mick, who is also a vampire. As he works, Mick must deal with the ups and downs of being immortal, his adversaries in the vampire world, and a forbidden love he feels for a mortal."

Tezcatlipoca 29-09-2007 17:49

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

Hmm. A vampire PI, who has a forbidden love for a mortal?

What's that sound like then? ;)

There's a few other new shows which don't sound particularly original. Can't remember their names, but one had a premise which seemed to be pretty much "Quantum Leap", while another sounded very similar to "Brimstone" (v good show from a few years ago, only lasted 1 season, had a dead cop sent back from Hell by the Devil to round up some escaped souls).

Paul 29-09-2007 18:20

Watched Journeyman, and it was quite good. Its a bit like Quantum leap except he gets sent back in time to save people rather than leaping into the person's body.

Will keep watching to see how it turns out.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

Journeyman - it was a bit confusing to start with, but good enough to keep watching. One thing that bugged me was how easily his wife was convinced at the end.

Reaper - Yep, entertaining and quit funny at times, shall continue with that.

Moonlight - for a first episode I thought this was very good, even my daughter got hooked by just a few minutes of it. Definitely going to watch more of these.

A few snippets from my TV Zone magazine, these may have been mentioned before as I'm a month behind reading the mag !

Virgin One has bid for the rights to show Battlestar Galactica.

BBC2 has picked up the 6 part series Origins (spin off of Heroes).

The BBC and Joss Whedon now look set to make the Buffy spin off Ripper as a 90 minute movie to be shown in 2008.

---------- Post added at 15:21 ---------- Previous post was at 14:55 ----------

Virgin 1 will also be showing the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Stargate Atlantis has been renewed for a fifth series of 20 episodes.

Eureka has also been renewed for a third series of 13 episodes (I think that may have been mentioned before).

Three more season one episodes have been ordered for The Bionic Woman, Chuck and Journeyman.

Four more episodes of Moonlight have been ordered - despite it apparently not doing great in ratings.

A full 22 episodes of Pushing Daisies has been confirmed.

Same here. I've bought each box set of season 1, 2 and 3. The third one i made the mistake of buying from Australia though and had to mess around with my DVD player until i managed to make it multi regional. I do know what your talking about though.
;)

NBC is understood to have placed new series Bionic Woman and Journeyman on the scrapheap due to poor ratings.

I won't miss the Bionic Woman much - that really hasn't been brilliant IMO.

Shame about Journeyman though, that was getting better with each episode.

Torchwood returns for season 2 mid january, first episode features the guy who played spike in buffy, also there will be edited versions shown as repeats before the watershed for younger viewers

IMDB show a launch date in the USA of 14th Jan

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851851/

- but when it starts on V1 I have no idea, March time would be a guess?

I liked it. Going to watch the 2nd ep tonight.

The opener was slightly different from the test ep as they had a different guy playing the ex-boyfriend so all scenes with him were reshot.

anyone for Flashgordon (no not ramsay..) starting on sci fi, a modern day flash but based on the early comic book.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

Flash Gordon is okay, Ive watched the first 16 eps, with no. 17 waiting.

Really enjoyed TSCC again (watched the pilot last year).

I also watched the first episode of Jericho Season 2 last night, got two more to watch - looking good so far.
